This beer is a very dark chocolate brown and appears to be transparent with hints of amber when light shines through the glass. A very small white head emerges and disappears quickly, leaving very little lacing behind.
A very faint aroma is detectable. What is there is sweet malt with hints of chocolate.
Roasted bitter flavor hits the palette up front, followed by a smooth transition to a softer, sweeter flavor with a hint of root beer. This leads to a lofty marshmallow finish. The aftertaste is an odd concoction of roasted coffee and a sweet medicinal alcohol flavor.
The Vanilla Porter has a medium body that is a little syrupy with a small amount of carbonation.
The aftertaste is too sweet and kind of a turn off. The mouthfeel is a little too much on the syrupy side. The flavor is very interesting and worthy of a taste. However, I would find it difficult to partake in another after finishing the first.
