Pours a dark brown with dark reddish hues in the light. The head is an off-white, about one finger that retains very well. Lacing is light.
There is a hint of an alcoholic astringency in the smell that shows up in the taste. The vanilla is there as expected, though subtler than one might think. There is a toasty malt to the smell as well. It's not as sweet as some reviews I've read say it is. There can be a little sourness in the finish.
It's medium-bodied. The feel is thick and can be a little syrupy. Carbonation is light. Finish is a bit heady.
Not a bad one to try, though not a great one. I'd give it a shot and it's not something I'd avoid. Overall a decent brew.
