Deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grows the perfect ingredient for an extraordinary Porter brewed in Colorado. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure.

A very safe vanilla porter. A good balance of malts, chocolates and roastiness. Every few sips you get a deep splash of vanilla which calms the brew down even more.

It was ok. Not a whole lot going on flavor wise. Very easy to drink though, especially for a porter. Would have liked a higher ABV, but I guess this is a porter for the usually-a-light-beer-drinker. Wasn't horrible, but wasn't that great. Probably better as a nitro

Poured form bottle to snifter. Near-black in color, half finger of tan head that quickly dissipates to a thing ring. Nose and taste are spot-on for style: roast coffee beans and cocoa, not too harsh. The taste does have a vanilla bean flavor, fell is thin and smooth.

Had the base beer first. It's okay. 3.5. Has a little vanilla smell and taste. Mild roast malt flavor. Light brown lacing.

Then, I had a beer blend version. Base porter layered with Guinness (dry roasted malt) and Kahlua/Frangelico (sweet coffee, boozy). An improvement on the base beer.

5.0% abv.

12 oz. bottle into a Duvel glass. Pours a medium brown which appears watery. Settles dark brown in the glass; red hues when held to light. 1/2 a finger of off-white foam quickly fades down into a spotty lacing. Lots of bready/doughy malt on the nose with notes of caramel, expresso, and roasted malt. Didn't really pick up any vanilla. Medium-light weight, and quite smooth/creamy on the mouthfeel. Somewhat carbonated but not overly-so. Artificial vanilla and weak coffee on the taste with backing notes of chocolate - mainly on the back end. Finishes pretty smooth, but still pretty carbonated. Leaves behind a sugary-sweet aftertaste with notes of vanilla and coffee.

Overall, not really a bad beer, but not impressive by any standards, either. Kinda tastes like a watered-down vanilla expresso.

Look: Pure mahogany. It gleams with this proud woody hue when held to intense light. The head is broad, thick, and tan. It leaves spotty rings down the glass as I drink. Definitely the appropriate SRM for this style.

Smell: Subtle, sweet, vanilla accompanied by a well-rounded fruity ale yeast aroma. This beer was brewed with actual vanilla so freshness will dictate the intensity of the aroma.

Taste: This beer actually manages to capture some of the vanilla-like flavors attained from barrel aging with a subtly sweet vanilla flavor that permeates the entire taste profile. The ale yeast used provides an excellent counterpart as well with flavors of unfiltered honey.

Feel: Very smooth; so smooth you would think that you were drinking a nitro. The full body of this brew does the style justice, and leaves a coating of sweetness after each delightful gulp. I am a fan of high ABV brews, but this one somehow works with its relatively low ABV.

Overall: Yet another delightful and masterfully brewed beer by Breckenridge, this easy drinking dark is perfect for many occasions.

This is tough because the last few of these I had, I thought they were much better than what I just drank. So this is the review for this last one, poured from bottle into clean Weizen glass. Might be the wrong glass for this style...?
L- dark brown, not black like I prefer in a porter. Head very thin, 1/2 inch.
S- the vanilla is def there, also sassafras. As I drank it down, smelled somewhat musty.
T- vanilla, sassafras, some hops?
F- thinner than I like. Bit of champagne. Created a deep belch I'm afraid. I did drink it fast.
O- nice enough taste, goes down easy, but thinner in all ways than I had remembered from previous VPs. Made me wish I had picked something else, or a different glass, or something. Will try again.

If you ever get a chance to try the Nitro version of this beer, jump on it! I rate it a perfect 5.0.

Even the CO2 bottle version is a perfect example of Porter. Dark but not heavy, richly malty and perfectly balanced with the hops. The vanilla is perfectly subtle; just enough to taste without overwhelming the taste of the beer. Kudos, Breckenridge.

This brew is hard to rate in that it initially has a nice sweet taste. After a few tastes, a strange after taste takes over. Can't place the aftertaste, but it is distracting. Scotty's Brewhouse Lafayette IN.

Nice deep dark color, thin head. Smells slightly sweet, vanilla is not overpowering. The taste has less vanilla than I expected. Very smooth and thin in the mouth, which was unexpected as well. Nice summer porter.

Look: Dark brown with small tan head. A fairly transparent look for a porter. (3/5)
Smell: Vanilla not as strong as I would’ve thought. Chocolate and toasted aromas. Roasted malt doesn’t come though much but everything else does (3.5/5)
Feel: Medium bodied with light carbonation. (3.5/5)
Taste: Vanilla very strong but pleasant. Chocolate flavor nice and makes it sweet (maybe a little too much) which is balanced by a good roasted flavor. Coffee flavors also come through (3.75/5)
Overall: This is better on tap. A little too sweet but has some nice flavors to try to balance it out. (3.5/5)

This Vanilla Porter from the bosom of Denver Colorado is sporting an even 5.0% ABV and a lot of flavor.

Look-It pours a black body with stunning deep red hues in the light. The head is a thin film all the way down and leaves moist and thin delicate lacing on the glass.

Smell-It smells of vanilla and bread-pudding with a slightly sweet aroma. I also get a tinge of bourbon whiskey reduction.

Taste-It tastes like mahogany bourbon barrel aged sweetness with a creme soda overlay laced with vanilla. These flavors are perfectly subtle and pleasant.

Mouthfeel-It feels silky smooth with a mild sweetness and a lingering vanilla coating on the tongue.

Overall-This beer was better than I thought it would be so props for that. I'd definitely drink this one again and you should, too if you haven't already done so.

Dark brown with a plum-colored tint and thin, off-white head. Smooth, roasted malt aroma, both nutty and creamy, with a hint of coffee. The roasted malts are more hidden in the taste, with the vanilla and stone fruits more prominent. Medium bodied. Would like a more malt-forward taste, but the amount of vanilla in there is just about perfect.

A-Nice deep dark color, thin head dissapates quickly.

S-Some coffee, little vanilla, smells slightly sweet.

T-Less vanilla than I expected. Some sweetness. Maybe some coffee? Smooth but not the most flavorfull porter.

F-Thinner than I was expecting. A very smooth tasting beer.

O-Not bad, not great. This is not bad porter for summertime. Nothing is overpowering about the flavor.

Like the nitro a nice vanilla scent and after taste. Pours dark but not heavy at all. A bit watery tasting. The nitro version of this porter is much better.

Very pleasantly surprised with this porter. Typical strong smell, pleasant taste with mild to medium coffee taste. Finish is slightly dry with lingering coffee tones. If I had to pick a porter to drink every day, it would be this one.

O: Its different. I drank the 6 i had and wasnt blown away but was an easy drinking beer.

I normally don't drink porters, but I had to try what I think is Breck's flagship beer while in town. Easy to drink for this IPA fan due to a nice level of carbonation and a relatively light feel for the style. Vanilla is a nice buffer for the coffee-like flavor of porter beers. Would definitely get again, especially in the winter.

A really strong and nice aroma that's reminiscent of red vines. The vanilla helps to restrain the roasted flavors a bit, making it a more mild yet fully enjoyable porter.

This came in a craft beer combo pack. Color is black with red tints and a head that dissipates but sticks around on top. Surprisingly no vanilla smell, just a good Porter smell. The taste is not very good.

Dark with a very small tan-colored head.
Coffee/vanilla aroma.
Tastes of dark coffee, chocolate, a little nuttiness and pure vanilla extract. Ever so slightly bitter aftertaste.
Very smooth going down, an excellent easy drinking beer. Took me two or three bottles to adjust to it but is now definitely one of my go-tos. Would highly recommend for someone who's had bad experiences with dark beers.

Bottle. I didn’t really care for this the first time I tried it. But I’d already bought six of em, so hey....ya gotta drink em, right? Gotta say I’m glad I went back for seconds! Thoroughly enjoyed the second one..and the third...etc. Vanilla, chocolate, nuts, with a nice balance of hops. Well made! Has a permanent spot in my fridge. Solid pour!

Light mouthfeel. Lingering chocolate and potent vanilla tastes. The upfront taste is very sweet, almost artificially and that taste paste. It is a nutty brown color.

A- a half finger head. No lacing. Disapated quickly. Great color a dark brown with a hint of ruby.
S- love the smell. Sweet fruit and vanilla.
T- I thought this could have a bit fuller of a taste. Little more vanilla. Little sweater. And I would have loved it. I could have one here and there. Slight coffee flavor.
M- slightly richer then most. But not as rich as I expected.
O- good beer. Would have one when in mood. Wife loved it. But I'm not as into the darker beers.

One of the best porters I've tried, but that's a limited variety. Nice and heady at first and dissipates within about ten minutes. Subtler notes of vanilla bean, moreso bean than vanilla extract. Reminiscent of Guinness without the heavy body. Taste isn't the most impressive but sessionable none the less.
