Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass.
A – Pours a crystal-clear amber. Small head of fizzy white bubbles with almost no retention. Minimal to no lacing.
S – Bready non-roasted malts and yeast. Not much else, meaning it basically comes off smelling like….beer. (If you know what I mean) Overall aroma is faint.
T – Malt forward, with a very mild hop finish. Malts are doughy, hops are slightly herbal, but the overall flavor profile is very watered down here, like a beer that’s been turned down to “mild”. A little dextrin sweetness in the back end. Little complexity. One taste is all you get.
M – Thin with prickly carbonation. Finishes crisp and clean. 7.5 abv fairly well hidden, but the abv combined with the crisp carbonation has the beer coming off as “not smooth” going down.
O – The flavor that is here isn’t bad, but ultimately this is a completely drab and forgettable American Bock. I’d go so far as to call it “balanced” which is good. I would also call it “meek”, which is not. Come on, Breckenridge, you can do better than this.
