Pours a brilliant deep garnet with half inch fleeting khaki head that leaves a modest layer of foam.
Melanoidin aromas of deeply caramelized malt, toffee, and toasted bread form the initial aroma. There's a hint of floral hop at the finish.
Flavor reveals some of those characteristics. Fairly sweet, deeply roasted malt dominates the profile initially, finishing with cardboard and a slightly roasted dryness. There's an underlying dark cherry character from the roast malt that complements early floral hop notes nicely. Buttery diacetyl emerges in the aftertaste.
Body is fairly watery, with moderate carbonation and slight alcohol warmth. There's a touch of roast astringency.
Malt forward brew with light complexity. Not offensive, aside from the light body and dark fruit character.
