I bought a 6-pack of Lucky U IPA at Halls in Grapevine for $10.

Lovely copper pour with 1 inch of head. Moderate lacing during the tasting.

A great aroma of hops, sweet malts, orange and a little green grass.

A nice bitter start without overdoing it, the 68 IBU is very clean and not at all overpowering. There is also a pleasant floral character in the hopiness. The middle is spicy with lemongrass & a hint of mint. The finish is smooth, with lingering hops, citrus and caramel.

Nicely carbonated and very smooth, this IPA is a delight to drink. No hint of the 6.2 ABV.

If I were to point a finger anywhere it would be at the sweetness. I would like just a little more up front, like caramel or molasses. Otherwise I loved it and will drink it again.

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a large snifter glass.

A: Pours a clear copper hue with a thick, frothy 1-1/2 finger head that sticks around for a while leaving a nice trail down the glass before ending in a partial wispy lace.

S: Strong hoppy aroma. Very crisp and clean with some hints of lemon and other citrus.

T: Similar to the smell a very hoppy flavor crosses the palate as called for by the style. More bitter than sweet and surprising smooth.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: This is a solid IPA – very crisp and refreshing and nicely hopped. This brewery never disappoints.

A: Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a pint glass. Thick, apple-cider in color with a 1-finger white, frothy head. Minimal lacing.

S: More malt than hop on the nose, with some caramel apple, earth, grass, pinewood, and leather. Not a big nose, and one that won't turn the IPA-Averse off.

T: This beer opens in your mouth with some crusty malt notes, and moves some hop character over your tongue as you swallow. It's tinny and sedimentary, with some definite dirt flavors, fairly well-balanced malt-to-hop ratio, and a bone-dry, almost chalky swallow. This IPA is on the dry/bitter side of things.

M: Full and crisp, without being distinct. Easy enough to drink, with a parched after-feel. This is a dry IPA.

O: Not one I would seek out, but if seen on-tap with lesser fare at a bar, one I would certainly go to. More than one in a sitting can be enjoyed, but I still wouldn't necessarily call it "sessionable" due to the dry nature of it.

Poured from a bottle into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, light, orange-yellow coloring that is slightly hazed, with a foamy, light, big bubbled, off-white head. Good cling to the glass as you drink. The nose is light and mild, with subtle citrus highlights, and a fresh cut grass characteristic. Flavors are peppery hops initially, but that quickly gives way to a mango, citrus, and passion fruit blend of sweetness, with an underlying toffee malt taste. At the end of the palate, the hops return, this time with a resiny and green profile. The aftertaste is a blend of the citrus, hops, and pepper spicing, but overall low key. The mid-bodied beer has a smooth, easy finish, with just a bit of bitter drying on the tip of the tongue. Solid IPA, and easy enough to drink. Would make a good starter IPA for someone just getting into the world of hops flavors.

From notes on 11/05/11:
Best by: 12/01/11; Poured in a pint glass.

A - One inch off-white fluffy head with decent lacing; Darker toned copper color with an orange hue; Nice, cloudy appearance

S - Smell is faint, but well balanced; Some citrus and earthy hops at the nose; Hops are balanced with sweet malts

T - There is some bitterness at the beginning of the sip that lingers; Sweet caramel and earthy flavors come through, followed by grapefruit and earthy hops; Some bitterness in the aftertaste as well

M - Moderate carbonation; Just a very slight, dry finish; Medium bodied

O - Overall, I think this is a pretty drinkable brew. In both the nose and taste, this is a very balanced beer with some bitterness mixed in. It was enjoyable, but not a favorite of mine for this style. That said, it's always good to have a change of pace from my usual preference of hoppier IPA's.
