I've been visiting Noe Valley on Christmas for the last six years and I'm always excited to visit all the great beer places we don't have in new york (although New York has improved a great deal in the past few years). My favorite place had been Plumpjack Liquors on 24th Street, having an exceptional selection of belgians and a decent selection of locals, including Russian River.

I'm not interested in getting belgian beer while in California; my biggest interest is in Russian River, which Plumpjack always has. That was the measuring stick for Whole Foods and they passed with Flying colors.

Russian River: Pliny the Elder, Blind Pig, Consecration, Temptation and Damnation. In addition all the other locals you could want: Moylans, Bear Republic, North Coast, Anderson, etc., etc.

A little light on the Belgians but, again, not what i look for in California.

The staff, as is the case in may Whole Foods, is very knowledgable and very enthusiastic. A great place and the beer is very easy to fine. Perhaps some day they'll offer growlers?

Continuing my place reviews of San Francisco’s Whole Foods locations. This is for the 24th St branch. This is a neighborhood WF, with more of a locals-only feel. Tight quarters, long lines, and a dependable spread of local and regional craft. You’re looking at a bit of a hike from the 24th St. BART station, for those adventuring from out of town.

Went there directly from SF MoMA, and it was great when I saw my Man Pliny with about a dozen other Russian River beers all in the refrigerator. I walked back with two bags full of beer! Other noteworthy in the refrigerator with great dates were Bear Republic Racer 5 in both 12 and 24 packs!

This is part of the Noe Valley two-fer. You can go to Plumpjack and then walk down here.

Very nice selection which seems to round out Plumpjack quite nicely. I've seen plenty of big beers in here, and several rare ones I had yet to see, oddly enough. It's a typical whole foods in that there is someone working this particular section as "their thing", so they are ready to answer any and all questions. Not so much worth going out of your way for, but if you are visiting Plumpjack, why not? Be aware that there is limited parking in the actual WF lot.

Stopped in here yesterday to pick up a few groceries and admire the beer section. I come to Noe Valley pretty often, but this was my first visit to the Whole Foods.

I'm not going to go into details about the atmosphere. This Whole Foods looks and feels just like all the others: clean, open, neat; filled with organic and exotic groceries and the people who buy them.

The beer section is split into two areas on the back perimeter of the produce section. The majority of the selection comes from northern California microbreweries, including a few harder-to-find beers from Russian River, Lucky Hand (Oakland), and Buckbean (Reno). This store also carries many popular German and Belgian beers, as well as solid lineups from breweries like Dogfish Head, New Belgium, and Oskar Blues.

All of the prices were reasonable, and the staff was nice and noninvasive. This is a good place to buy beer, but it doesn't hold a candle to Plumpjack Wines just up the street.
