A traditional Milk Stout infused with pure Madagascar vanilla. Subtle vanilla flavor throughout with roasted notes and a slightly sweet, smooth finish.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a half pint glass. pours light brown to amber in certain spots and the right light. has a thin khaki colored foam cap that remains throughout the pour. sweet vanilla with light chocolate in the background on the nose. taste follows. thinner mouthfeel. kind of watery. not terrible if you’re looking for a sessionable stout but it’s a little sweet for more than one in a row.

The look of Big Muddy Vanilla Stout was, well, muddy. Deep brown, almost no head to speak of. While it did have a smooth mouthfeel, the vanilla flavor was too prominent, giving the beer an off-putting sweetness. Malt flavor lingers a bit--not bad longevity on the finish. Pleasant enough, but nothing to get excited about here.

Unknown vintage; drank 1/17/15 @ the Yarchives.
Dark brown hue; champagne bubbles throughout.
HUGE tan head; frothy, tree-rung lace.
Vanilla & hazelnut nose.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
A mix of mild vanilla, caramel & cream flavors; this flirted with being overly sweet, but the thinner mouthfeel & muted tones steered it to be a serviceable session ale

This pours a dark mahogany brown with a tan head. Looks more like a porter than a stout. There’s some vanilla on the nose, but nothing that indicates this is a stout, other than a subtle undercurrent of soft cocoa aromas.
The vanilla is very nice on the taste, but the beer lacks the gravitas you find in even the most humble stout, and the mouthfeel is entirely too spritzy for the style. I’m finishing the bottle, but I wish I’d only picked up a single of this - lotsa better offerings available in this flavored stout space.

My favorite vanilla. I only like this in the colder months in Chicago (which makes sense I guess), but this brew is good. I would recommend trying this anytime of the year you have the chance, but best in winter!

Appearance: Looks good for a stout. Not murky, clean dark.
Smell: Vanilla, some roast, another aroma cant place.
Taste: Vanilla, roast, a bit astringent on the end.
Mouthfeel: Lighter than expected.

Poured into a snifter. A nearly opaque dark brown color with a smallish tan head. The foam settled fairly quickly into a partial cap. Some vanilla on the nose but also slightly phenolic with some chocolate. The taste was about as expected with modest vanilla and understated malt. It came off as thin and lacking.

Dark coffee black pour with a 2 finger grey-ish head, receding to a thin ring leaving wispy lace behind.
Aroma of charcoal, coffee beans, roast malt, camp fire.
Flavor is assertive in its earthiness but not ashy at all. It's a pleasant earthiness. A good vanilla presence, and coffee too. It's like french vanilla flavored coffee. The coffee is fresh, absent of pepper or green, and the vanilla is just the right amount. I can't complain at all here.
Feel is medium bodied, creamy, roasty, and semi dry.
Overall, a very good stout if you like coffee and vanilla together. I don't understand the low ratings, I'd buy more if I could.
