Brewed using real pumpkins and savory pumpkin pie spices giving hints of natural cinnamon and nutmeg. American hops balanced with Pale, Aromatic & Caramel malts create a full-bodied taste and exceptional flavor.

12 oz bottle from Binny's poured into a tulip. Subtle for a pumpkin beer, not overpowering. Somewhat sessionable due to lower ABV. Will have another.

Overall, a good pumpkin beer that I would buy again. Can really taste the pumpkin and cinnamon but not overpowering. A little too much carbonation to rate it any higher.

12 oz. bottle, no apparent bottling information. Acquired a single bottle of this stuff from the local Binny's. Apparently I've never reviewed a beer from Big Muddy Brewing before, although i do recall having tried their famous Big Muddy Monster once upon a time.
Poured into a La Fin Du Monde tulip.
A - Pours a nice golden orange with about two fingers of creamy frothy beige head.
S - Nose brings in huge aromas of pumpkin pie, pie crust, whipped cream, soft nutmeg, brown sugar, cola.
T - Taste brings in the same: yuge pumpkin pie spices, clove, nutmeg, brown sugar, with a cola finish. Soft buttery pie crust taste, isn't quite as harsh as the more popular Southern Tier Pumking, but this thing could definitely rival it.
M - Feel is smooth & creamy, medium-bodied and easy drinking. Good carbonation. A bit sweet at times, but nice for a dessert beer.
Overall, no problems giving this one 4's across the board. A nice autumnal dessert beer that can hang with the best of 'em.

12 oz bottle, no date, into Southern Grist pink logo snifter.
Has a very bold amber-orange color with a head that fizzles to nothing within seconds.
Aroma brings equal amounts of grain and gourd. Very slight nutmeg, some metallic notes from the glass.
Flavor brings robust chunky pumpkin followed by light notes of cinnamon, light brown sugar, allspice, and nutmeg. Has flecks of sourness, maybe bacteria hasn't taken hold yet. Has mild hoppiness and mild nuttiness with moderate malt presence. The pumpkin stays throughout the profile.
Feel is very carbonated, too carbonated for my liking, with mild alcohol heat and some slight dryness and pucker on the back end.
Overall, all things considered with how bad pumpkin beers can be, I'll still bump up the overall to a "4". It's a well-made pumpkin beer and could be much worse given the style. A semi-sweet treat that doesn't overdo it on gimmick or cloy. Give it a try at least once.

Big Muddy Brewing "Pumpkin Smasher"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, coded "08:26 1938SP" not that that means anything
$1.99 @ Roger Wilco, Pennsauken, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's still a little early for pumpkin beers in my opinion but the weather is getting colder, and the days shorter, so I might as well try this right now. It's 6.0% abv which isn't that strong, but I don't exactly need anything to warm my bones right now anyway. It's poured a very hazy, no, even cloudy, body beneath a two-finger thick head of densely creamy off-white foam. The body is amber to deep amber in color. I wonder if I was supposed to pour this carefully, there's nothing on the label about it. The head looks great but the murky body is off-putting. In the nose I clearly get pumpkin pie. It's not just the spices, there's more to it, it's sweetish and cake-like. They must have used an extract from Amoretti or something - if not they did an excellent job of recreating the aroma, it actually smells like a pumpkin pie. Very nice! The head has now dropped but it's trying to hold together a solid surface covering. I haven't even had a sip yet, and there's no lacing either. That probably has to do with the spices or extract. On to the flavor... it's not as "pumpkin pie" as the aroma would have you think it would be, nor is it as sweet. It seems a little thin overall but there's some nice bready and lightly caramelish malt, and a nice note of vanilla - but there's also something odd and unpleasant, which may be coming from the actual pumpkin. Weird. It lingers like artificial sweetener as well, which is also very odd. I'm not liking this one. In the mouth it's medium-light in body and delicately crisp. If you're a fan of pumpkin beers I'd say go ahead and give it a shot, but otherwise I'd pass.

Excellent beer. Not overwrought or artificial tasting like so many pumpkin ales.
