Stopped here today after having some drinks at the Station Taproom. Very small shop with all of the necessities and a helpful guy behind the counter. Yeast fridge was a bit all over the place, with some vials being expired and others being fresh. A dedicated hop refrigerator was appreciated and most hops were only sold by the ounce. Nothing special about this shop, but nothing wrong with it either. From what I've read in other reviews, the owner is knowledgeable and helpful. I have no reason to doubt that as the people I talked to behind the counter were very accommodating and friendly. If you are a home brewer in the area, I'm sure this place serves as a commodity for you.

Artisan Homebrew is the nearest homebrew shop to our house and a regular go to spot for us. The shop is located right on the main drag in Downingtown. Mike, the owner, has been in the store every time we have gone.

Mike is always happy to help with recipe formulation or answering questions. His understanding of the chemistry and process is very good, as is his ability to communicate it. He has also been a great source of money saving/"homebrew shop is closed" tips (lie using nude women's knee highs if you are out of muslin bags). His homebrew is tasty as well.

My only criticism is that selection of hops and yeasts is not always complete. I have had to go to a third hop choice or second yeast choice on more than one occasion. Great place otherwise, though, and I would recommend it.

Ive been a home brewer for about 2yrs with varying degrees of seriousness.

I had the pleasure of visiting Artisan for the first time about 2 months ago. Since then Ive brewed 3 different beers with the guidance of the shop owner, Mike. Mike is great and willing to spend time with you to make you a better home brewer. He explains specifics of the process clearly and makes sure you understand what you are doing and why you are doing it.

I would highly recommend Artisan to all home brewers in the area.

This past weekend we stopped by Artisan to pick up all of the equipment we would need to start brewing at home. I'd read a bit, but didn't know exactly what I'd need. The shop was a bit intimidating for a first-timer, but the staff was knowledgeable and helpful in selecting just what I needed to get started. He also offered to help by phone if we had any trouble, and I witnessed this happen while we were waiting for the customers before us (busy on Saturdays?) to conclude their purchases.

Rather than sell us an overpriced pre-constructed advanced brewing kit, he assembled pieces for us on top of a basic brewing kit, and we ended up saving a bit from online prices.

The store also has wine-making supplies, and seems to keep a good stock of both equipment and raw materials.

We'll definitely be back to this local store when we need more supplies. The knowledge and service there are better than most other types of retail.

Welcome to Chester County! Artisan Homebrew has been a much need shop for the local brewer and wine maker. Mike has helped me numerous times with recipes and substitutions. He is very knowledgeable and always willing to help, whether it is in person or on the phone.

After a 4 year layoff from brewing Mike helped me get all the necessary equipment together and confidence to start brewing again. Thanks Mike!

The store is clean and organized and parking is never an issue since there is on street parking right in front and parking lots on either side of store!

Artisan is the perfect place for the beginner to expert!

I had the fortune of meeting Mike after a friend of mine told me about a homebrew shop that had opened in Downingtown. Before this i would have to travel at least 30 mins one way to another homebrew shop that had a limited supply of all-grain supplies.
Mike's store has a great slection of hops, grains and yeast strains for making about any beer you want. There is also a nice slection of wine kits and supplies.
Mike is very knowledgeable and willing to help anyone from beginner to expert with questions and even helping with their first brew. Or making the jump to all-grain form extract. If you have question he will help you find the answers.

It is a great place just to stop in and join the conversaion about brewing, who made what, what beverage you are making next, or just getting some feed back about question you might have.

Note that I am new to home brewing. That being said, Mike is extremely friendly, informative and patient in dealing with my lack of knowledge and abundance of questions. He seems to be comfortable discussing brewing with beginners like me, as well as with seasoned brewers.

The shop is clean, well organized and a pleasant place to be. I never have a hard time parking right in front of the store and I have always been able to find what I need.

This is in the heart of Downingtown - right around the corner from Victory Brewing. I get the impression Mike knows A LOT about local brewing.
