I don't want to compare this store wit other stores in the state. That's not fair to them, but it's hard not to. San Antonio, never gets all of the beers that the other major cities in the state receive. Gabriel's has the best selection in the city though. They are a little out of the way, but if you make the trip it is worth it. Most of their beers are kept in coolers, although most of their new arrivals are not. They have selves in the back that hold some of their older beers; however, it is hard to convince myself to buy them due to their less then optimal storage conditions. They have a nice single's selection up front, but generally will not break up a six pack. The people that work in the beer section are fairly knowledgeable, but anyone else in the store is not. Their prices recently have began to become more expensive, but for some items they are not bad. They have recently added a glassware collection in the back of the store also. This is easily the best selection in the city and the place that I usually recommend. It doesn't hurt that it's only two exits down from Freetail either.

Conveniently located a couple of miles down the road from Freetail Brewing, Gabriel’s Superstore offers a massive amount of craft beer. This is one of those “supermarkets of liquor” that has got enough booze to flood a small town.

Beer-wise, a lot of the stock here refrigerated, which is always a plus. They have a ton of singles to build a pack, and packs and bombers from Deschutes. Stone, Squatters, Prairie, Five Stones, Adelbert’s, New Braunfels and a bunch of Texas names… plus Belgians, fifteen different New Belgium Lips of Faith and some high-gravity goodies like Brewdog Bitch Please.

All the open cases and boxes of beer on pallets on the floor make the beer section look a little haphazard (as opposed to the neatly displayed bottles of spirits). A friendly beer guy helped me out with my failed quest for Jester King El Cedro.

This would be a great joint for your everyday beer needs, but probably not for barrel-aged stuff and special releases.

I saw the BA ratings on this store and tried it out when I was in that part of town. In my experience, they have the best/widest selection of craft beer of any store in town. There were dozens to hundreds of different beers. The emphasis was on US craft brewers with lots of Texas titles and a pretty good selection of Belgian beers. There were fewer German and British labels. Prices were decent with a few specials available. Although the selection was better than other stores in town that I've been to, I'm not sure it's enough improved to warrant going a long way out of your way to check them out.

There's not a lot in the way of craft beer in San Antonio, but if you are looking for some bottles to take home with you, this is the place. The beer manager, Robert, is very knowledgeable and helpful. He has put together quite a beer selection and knows where to point ya. The place is a huge, and first impression might be that it is not a craft beer destination, but it most definitely is. Highly recommended...

Stopped in the Ganriel's while on a business road trip. Wanted to get some of the beers that don't have distro in So Cal. Was approached by one of the employees and we proceeded to talk beers for the next hour while he walked me through their stock, telling me about the ones I hadn't seen before. This store (there are several) had an pretty extensive selection of beers plus a section where you could make up your own six packs.

After talking to the employee I took him up on a couple of suggestions for a new brewery's offering (5 Stones) and made up a couple mixed sixers while I was at it.

Recommend this place highly and I'll be back when the next business trip comes up.

Visited on a Wednesday evening. Store was dead. I wish this store was closer to downtown and easier to find (its in a shopping center, off the main road)

A - Open, bright , clean, rather industrial. Like a Total Wine, but with liquor. Not a den of craft beer, but certainly an easy quick place to shop. - 4

Q – No concerns. You can get many of the beers as singles already chilled. - 4

Sel – Fantastic selection for both domestic and foreign. Prairie Artisan – bought one of each of the four different bottles on the shelf. – 4.75

Ser – The staff wanders the isle and asked twice if I needed help. The second time I took him up on it and he had an immediate answer and took me right to the spot on the shelf. – 4.5

Food – No food, except a few take out snacks.

Value – $$

Stopped here before heading home from Texas on recommendation and the fact our hotel was only a few "blocks" away.
All in one store beer, wine, liquor which is an oddity to us in NY. Far left side of the store was the beer aisle which was basically your average grocery store aisle blown double wide.
Found more stuff than I could possibly fit in my checked luggage so would say its a successful trip. Maui cans, ska bombers, Jester King everything, Santa Fe cans and chicken killer bw. Don't remember any imports of note but wasn't looking much into them. Location close to Freetail makes this a perfect place for visitors to hit.

I have been to over 6 Gabriel's locations in San Antonio with some barely 10 minutes away from another location and I could easily say this is the best of their locations. Don't believe just because this location has a great rating that other locations will have just as great a selection because other locations may have close to nothing for beers.

Vibe: There weren't too many beer enthusiasts here when I came. Most people were getting what they already knew, but some were bold and stepped out of their boundaries which was quite nice to see. This is a very big locations selling all types of alcohol, so there is quite a hustle and bustle going on.

Quality: The only real problem that I saw from this location was that in their singles that put them in an extremely cold cooler and this may freeze the canned beers, which I found one frozen slushy can.
Other than this one mistake they have some drinks in coolers and other ones outside on shelves. The ones on the shelves were beers made for aging, so I feel like this is how they convince themselves that they can be shelved like this, without the proper storing procedures then these truly can't be aged though.
Most were properly stored, so don't let me turn you off with my downsides.

Service: People were always willing to help if you had any questions. When people help outside of their area of expertise then its quite funny. If you ask someone who doesn't know what you're talking about they will first try to find it themselves and after they admit defeat then they ask someone who actually knows. At least someone knows and that's the important thing. Only ask those who hover in the beer department and not at the front.

Selection: The stand outs that I was surprised to see were the Trappistes Rochefort set, Three Philosophers, and the main 3 from the Jester King Craft Brewery. I know this might sound like nothing to other, but these really can't be found in San Antonio. They had a nice selection of foreign beers, lambics, and Gueuzes which is always a nice surprise when I visit a new selection. This place had something for everything and I bought over 25 singles from my run, looked them up on my phone, and they were all solidly reviewed beers.

Overall: If you are looking for a place where you could stock up at then this is your best location in San Antonio. The best after this store is Central Market and then Whole Foods, but even these two don't come close to this Gabriel's. I stayed here for over a hour looking at everything and trying to pick.
