A great find, but one that I discovered unfortunately on my last night in Kyoto. Just off Kawaramachi in the maze of alleyways between Sanjo & Shijo Streets - best bet is to ask for directions, and even then I wish you luck. A small pub with seating for maybe 10 - 12 at tables and another 6 at the bar. This is a place to spend an evening or morning (they open at 7pm and close at 5am on weekends) sinking into the great atmosphere. The owner and only staff member Jun was welcoming and very passionate about good Japanese beer. While I didn't try the food, it seemed to be mainly charcuterie, cheese plates and the like (he had a huge leg of Parma Ham on the bar that he shaved off from). Extensive bottle selection of Belgians, a few US micros and outstanding Japanese craft - with two taps. When I was there he had a Baird IPA and some amazing hybrid Oktoberfest beer from Shiga Kogen. No English menu's, but if you go in with a basic knowledge of Japanese you'll manage. Easily my favourite beer stop in Japan - while Popeye's had the larger selection, and more to offer on tap this place reminded me most of the bars in Belgium that I loved (i.e. De Garre) - I could spend hours here (and a small fortune - it's not cheap). Highly Recommended!
