Reviewed from notes from Barley's Brewhaus (Overland Park, KS) on 11/04/04. GABF 2004 Irish-Style Red Ale Gold Medal Winner.

Poured a clear, coppery red color with little head and no real retention. Aromas of grain and a slight malt sweetness.

A taste of grains, almost like biscuits, with a bit of caramel-like flavor that leads into the earthy hops with a bit of bite.

Smooth, very drinkable beer that I drank all night while I watched the election returns, and came back for again. Sometimes called 'Brick Red Amber,' but Fountain City is it's actual name. A pretty good representation of the style.

Had a nice clear amber with a foamy head, leaving come thick lacing.
Very bready nose, with a little hops and citrus in there too.
The taste had pleasant dry caramel and a bread/toast note, very well balanced with a pleasant mildly bitter finish.
Medium bodied and slightly viscous.
Pretty smooth and tasty, I could have several of these.
Nothing complex but a solid and tasty amber.

Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a mostly clear copper-amber color with a medium light beige head. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is fruity malt with a touch of hops. Medium, smooth body with flavors of earthy malt and light fruity undertones. Slight hops presence as well. The finish is short and malty with a lightly bitter hops aftertaste. Just average.
