Huge thanks to beastiefan2k for sending me one of these rare bottles. Bottled labeled 12-15-06. Tag also says only 150 of these were bottled. This was probably the first waxed dipped, corked and caged bottle that was also hand painted that I've seen. Great presentation!

Poured a dark brown color with a smaller sized off white head.

Aromas of chocolate, dark cherries (chocolate covered cherries), roasty, wood, and a hint of a vinous quality. The wood came out in the aromas the more this one 'breathed'.

Tastes of chocolate, woody, vanilla, plums, raisins, cherries, and again the same hint of red wine.

The brett was really non-existent, but that didn't matter as I really enjoyed this the way it was. I would have said this was a cross between a Dubbel and a Stout. I also noted that this was just 'different' and I had a hard time defining on what just that difference was.

From notes.
Much thanks to hopdog for sharing this hand-painted bottle from the brewery. Bottle dated 12-15-06...
Appears a dark, murky brown with a red tone when held to the light. Lots of scattered lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of oak, cocoa, caramel, vanilla sugar, mild raisins, and a touch of grape juice.
Taste is of the aromas with some vinuous notes, figs, black cherries, caramel cremes, and cocoa.
Moutfheel is medium-full bodied, semi-sweetness of raisins up front, leading to a semi-dry, oaky finish.

Poured from bottle marked 12-15-06.
Appearance is a dark amber brown, virtually opaque. Small bubbly ring surrounds the glass with a volcano in the center.

This apparently was stored in cabernet barrels and I can definitely pick up hints of that. Also a slight bourbon aroma with a splash of dark fruits.

Wow, explosion of flavor with this one. Kicks off with a dark fruit mixer along with a slight bourbon taste. That cabernet definitely comes through also and then seems to have a chocolate bitter end. Possibly some coffee undertones as well. Quite complex and slightly overpowering.

Mouthfeel is quite spritzy as you would expect and a touch syrupy which is a strange combination.

Although listed as an American Wild Ale I would most closely compare it to JW Lees Harvest Ale though a bit more carbonated and not as sweet. The history of this beer is really quite interesting as I remember the night of the fire that almost burned the brewery to the ground and this was amply stored as a result. Overall very complex and possibly to complex if that's even possible. Flavor and ABV makes this definitely a one in a night beer. Quite impressive to say the least.

Big thanks to exbeastiefan2k for sharing this one off with EmperorStan and I the other day. The story behind this ale was kind of neat, so it was nice to try it. This ale started as an Belgian Strong Dark Ale which was put into Cabernet barrels and brett was added.

Pours dark brown with a thin light tan head sitting on top. Decent retention.

The aroma is only slightly sour. It's rather malty and boozy however. Really a big punch of raisin up front, but you can detect the brett in there a little bit.

The taste was kind of disappointing when viewed as a Wild Ale. This beer however started as a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, which may be more appropriate. the barrel aging and strong flavors have a strangle hold on the brett, and it's hard to consider it a wild. Aside from that, there is a huge raisin flavor that dominates, with a lingering maltiness.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and lightly carbonated.

The drinkability is low to moderate. The flavors are incredibly impressive, however they weren't bad either. It's just hard to view as a wild, and perhaps would have been more successful as a Belgian Dark. In any case, it was a great experience and an appreciated novelty. Kudos to the brewers for sure.
