Unmistakably malty, Possum Trot draws its inspiration from the classic brown ales of England. This unique style, given Kansas City’s original nickname, combines a variety of barley to produce a toasty, nutty malt flavor with a slight hop bitterness in the finish for balance.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with a medium and foamy light tan head that has decent retention. Patches of lace on the glass. Light hazelnut and malt aroma. Medium, smooth body with a nutty character. Light floral hops and malt are present as well. The finish is smooth and nutty with touches of chocolate in the aftertaste. Slightly above average all around.

Got my growler filled today as part of the two for one Saturday reward program. This poured a dark brown with little head or lacing. You can smell the maltiness in this one but it isn't overwhelming. There are also hints of chocolate and nuttiness. The taste is like it smells. The mouth feel is lighter than I expected. I like that the malty taste doesn't overwhelm and that the chocolate taste comes through well.

Draught @ Brewpub: This one poured a fairly dark brown color. Mine had almost no head on it and what was there left no lacing. There is a nice nose to it. Faint chocolate and nutty notes. Maybe some floral hops. The taste is good. There is a faint nuttiness to it, as well as some chocolate. Medium malt body. Decent and an easy drinker.

One of the joys of my neighborhood is that I can walk to the 75th Street Brewery. Another joy is this brown ale...one of my favorite brown ales. I'm a huge fan of English brown ales, and most brown ales in the US, even those labelled as English style, are often too sweet, sticky and just plain cloying. Two exceptions to this are Ellie's Brown Ale and Possum Trot Brown Ale which hold true to the English style. And in case you're curious, Kansas City where the brewery is based was originally named Possum Trot in the mid 1800s.

I had this beer on tap in the brewery. It pours a nice chocolate brown color with a creamy off white head with good retention. Leaves nice lacing around the edge of the glass as you drink it down.

Smells slightly sweet, with a chocolaty/nutty aroma and a hint of toffee.

Wonderfully smooth, medium body. Malty taste with hints of chocolate, very lightly hopped (just enough), nutty. Not as sweet tasting as you would expect based upon the smell.

A good drinking brown ale...one of my favorite beers of any style.

Amber-brown color with a nice foamy head, leaves thick lacing on the glass.
Smells nice, caramel, cocoa, a little brown sugar and some breadiness.
Tastes included light caramel and semisweet chocolate, some toast. Had a pleasant bitter chocolately finish.
The texture was a little too light and carbonated for the style, to me, but it had a nice medium body.
Had enough flavor to keep you interested and went down smooth. Not bad at all.

Had this at a microbrew fest in Indy. This was a dark brown ale with a foamy tan head. Has a smooth mouthfeel with lots of roasted malts and quite sweet, but I do not think it was too sweet. Pretty drinkable. Definitely worth a try. I would like to try some others from this brewery

A - A very nice pour by the bartender. It had a tan, foamy, two-finger head. The beer had a dark brown color.

S - It smelled of malts and it had an oak-like aroma.

T - Tasted of sweet malt and a little caramel. It also had an oaky/woody quality.

M - It was crisp and smooth. A medium-bodied beer.

D - A very good brown ale. A unique blend of sweet and roasted flavors.

This beer smells great. Notes of rich milk chocolate and tons af caramel in both nose and flavor. There is very little hop chatacter at all. Quite full bodied. Very filling. I would love to have another, but the one that I drank made me just too damn full.

Here is the case of a good tasting beer with not enough body to carry you home.

The pour is a typical brown/orange color. Smell is pleasing - a bit of sweet, nutty nose with heavy dark malts.

Taste is very sweet...really sweet, like cream mixed with a hop presence that doesn't have a lot of bite to it. I blame the body, which is very thin and unsatisfying.

Poured a deep brown, thick, but not quite opaque. Decent head that lacked much in the way or retention. Light malts, and some roasted flavors rise to the nose.

Sweet malts in the taste, with a good helping of roasted nut flavors. Minimal hop appearance towards the end. Smooth, and a little creamy, but not quite as thick as I had expected.

A good brown, I think. Not quite my favorite style, but a good brew.

Deep brown with hints of maroon/red showing through. A nice, slightly sticky meduim tan head holds on tight. Aromas of mocha dominate the nose. Roasted malts noticable too, although slightly muted. Smells "thick". Loads of dark caramel malts dance on the palate. Slight cola tones and carbonation hit the back of the palate with a mild, toasty lingering finish. Chocolate again shows up in the finish. Mouthfeel is light, thanks to the high carbonation levels. Coating, but not overpowering. A decent beer overall. Of all of 75th offerings I have tried, this is my least favorite, but still well done. Carbonation levels take away from some of the rich flavors present, IMO. While the IPA and stout are better, this is still a pretty good beer. Worth a try if you are a brown ale fan.

Sampled at the brewery

Appearance = As the name would imply, she's brown. Brown with copper overtones, a 1/4" head that remained throughout, good lacing as I drained the glass.

Nose = light but pleasant, sweet and malty

Taste = Smooth! That's the word I'd use to describe this one. Lots of malt, sweet but not too sweet. A bit thin but a very good Brown Ale. 5 years ago when I was drinking tons of Brown Ales, this would have been my favorite of the 8 or 10 beers they have on tap.

Served dark brown, translucent, ruby highlights… small tan head, minimal lace. Almost no nose, just a kiss of malt. Tasty, malt upfront (which also lingers throughout) but the hops crop up by the end with a hint of citrus, yet, Possum Trot remains on the malty side of things. Mouthfeel is a tad thin. Appetizing, very drinkable, worth a try.
