Served in a pint glass.

This beer was black and had a tan head.

It's smell was mild. Roasted and burnt malts.

It's mild in flavor, sweet from the oats, a nice bittering hoppiness.

It's nitro, so it's creamy smooth.

Overall, pretty average, but good enough.

I had this on tap in a pint glass.

Appearance- Black color with a fingers worth of tan head. Nice rings of lacing after each sip.

Smell- Dark roasted malt, coffee, and dark chocolate.

Taste- Dark roasted malt and coffee flavor with some char bitterness.

Mouthfeel- On the heavy side of medium bodied and smooth.

Overall- A good oatmeal stout. Not the best that I've had but still very drinkable.

Growler split, served in a DFH IPA glass

A - Black body with very little head.

S - Sweet creamy coffee, roasted chocolate malts, leafy green hops, sweet alcohol comes through.

T - Roasty upfront with dark chocolate and coffee, some bitterness mixed in with a tangy character on the back end. Finished roasted and slightly bitter.

M - Medium body, semi-syrupy, not as creamy as I wanted it be.

An average all around oatmeal stout. Nice aroma but the mouthfeel fell a little short. I would drink this again.

From notes made on Jan 23. Not a ton of light in the room, but enough daylight on my table to fairly evaluate.

Waitress brings a 16oz pour at actually a very good temperature. Estimated close to 50F.

Presents a short tan head that dissipates relatively quickly. Body color is appropriate. Overall appearance of this pour does not add nor subtract from my enjoyment.

Aroma is just a whiff of typical roasted malts. Nothing stands out. The bar area is pretty well free of other aromas, so this should shine a bit. Not much grabs me. Nothing about the aroma is enticing me to drink the beer at all.

Drinking the beer is overall an underwhelmingly average experience. Flavor-wise, the flavor has less harsh roast than I would expect from a dry irish stout, but overall, it's rather short on flavor. Roasted barley, along with a weak backup band of chocolate and coffee.

Mouthfeel is just not quite up to snuff for an oatmeal stout. Again, this is sitting somewhere between where a DIS and a good Oatmeal Stout. Thinner than it should be to the point that it detracts from my enjoyment.

Drinkability - A completely inoffensive beer that doesn't engage my brain in any way. The dryness of it makes it super quaffable in a 'just drink some beer' sort of way.

Overall, not a beer that you should avoid, but if you enjoy Oatmeal Stouts, you will be left a bit disappointed.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours flat black with a medium thick light tan head that diminishes slowly. Patches of lace on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts and coffee, along with a touch of dark chocolate. Medium, smooth body with roasted malt and hops flavors. Some coffee and dark fruit is present too. The finish is short and roasty with a lingering coffee aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Appearance: Pours a deep mahoghany brown - has nice rich velvety head.

Smell: The smell is very sweet - reminds me of chocolate.

Taste: The taste is infact very chocolate with afterthoughts taht remind me of prune and licorice. The body is nice though - very thick and creamy.

Sampled at the brewery

Appearance = brownish black, opaque. Small creamy looking head, plenty of lacing, light carbonation

Nose = Very nice. Bittersweet dark chocolate, dark roasted coffee (mocha)

Taste = Sweet, roasted malt, slight hoppy & 'burnt coffee' bitterness on the long finish. Creamy. Nice oatmeal stout.

Their second stout, a change of pace from the brewery's very popular Muddy Mo' stout. You can't have too much good stout on tap is how I see it.
