Had to check out their truckstop Tuesday specials. So I convince a few co-workers to make it our dinner spot. We all agreed it was an excellent decision!

They were a bit crowded, but we were seated within a few minutes.

I started with an oatmeal coffee stout, which was exceptional. As an appetizer we ordered up the fried mozzarella per hwwty4's post below, and damn it was awesome.

I had the truckstop 7.99 meatloaf with fried okra on the side (another 2.59), and it was not only a great value, but a damn tasty and very filling meal.

We were going to hit up the cigar bar, but smoking is no longer permitted in this establishment per Missouri law. They do sell cigars, but you'll have to smoke them somewhere else. I am not sure if their outdoor area is an option, it was raining while I was there and the patio area was shutdown. so we moved up to the bar in the dining area for a few. there is also another larger bar area on the other side of the cigar lounge.

Service was attentive at both the seating area and the bar. This is a cool place. There are alot of televisions, so if you are looking to watch a game you'll be alright. If I am back in town, I would most likely do another Tuesday for the meal and pint (2.50) specials. I only tried one beer (because I liked it so much) and held its own. I really enjoy coffee, and oatmeal stout, so it was a great pairing as far as I am concerned.

I have much love for McCoy's because it is where I got my start in the beer world.
Upon returning some years later, I can tell they are really in the groove. Pumping out some pretty excellent and unique beers that have developed and improved over time. Staff has good beer knowledge, and a line-up of veteran bartenders is there to answer the "beer nerd" questions.

Stopped by while we were in KC, and man was it worth it. They have standout food, and their beers were very good. I had the Good Farmhouse, sampled just about everything else, and was not disappointed. Waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. Great place to stop by if you're in the area.

Really cool brewpub. I wan’t there too long but I tried a lot of their beers at Foundry the night before. The IPA is great. The deck out front was a nice place to hang out on a Sunday afternoon. Come to this neighborhood if you’re a beer dork. There’s a bunch of interesting beer places (two more of them owned by the same group as McCoy's).

Went here to watch some football and drink some beers. It's a nicer bar and well maintained.

The beer's were good, the food was also good. The menu is geared toward foodies. I don't know what a sofrito is. Corn chips? But once I got past the menu the food was good.

The waiter at our table was knowlegable about the beers on tap and was helpful in describing the seasonal and cask offerings.

There were around 8 beers. From pedestrian gateway beers, like wheat and ginger, to the full blown craziness, of a cask russian imperial stout aged with cinnamon, cloves and cranberries.

(Visited 06/2011): McCoy's is located in the busy Westport area south of Kansas City by Pioneer Park. The brewpub is at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Westport. Parking is dicey in the entire area, and I ended up finding a street spot several blocks away.

The interior has a dark paint and wood motif and hanging lights. Old pictures and school portraits adorn the walls. The bar is in the center displaying TVs on all sides, with restaurant seating all around, and the brewing equipment is in the rear.

McCoy's' beer selection consists of 9 house beers, ranging from lighter options like Wheat, Light, and Ginger Shandy to more robust fare like Oatmeal Stout and Toddy Porter. The beers are pretty average on the whole. They have a 6-beer sampler available.

Service on a weekday evening at the bar was good. The bartender was well-versed in the beers available and was courteous throughout my meal.

I am a sucker for macaroni and cheese, so the Mac Daddy dinner jumped out at me and I was not disappointed. Four-cheese with peas and smoked bacon, 'nuff said.

Overall this is a beer spot that is somehow better than the sum of its parts. I would not say the beers alone are worth a special trip but overall I enjoyed my visit.

I am not sure if I would call McCoy's a restaurant or brew pub or bar or... I went with friends for dinner and beer. We did have a good time, and enjoyed the selection of beers we tried. The server and bartender were quick to offer sample of beers we expressed interest in. I like that their beers were revolving and that they had quite a selection that they do make. We did like the food and the atmosphere. The place filled up quickly and people stood around our table with many pointy elbows, which was not enjoyable. I did take home a growler, and I enjoyed it as much at home as I did there. The beer was served properly and was very enjoyable.

Atmosphere: McCoy's has put a lot of effort into making the brewpub into a down to earth pub yet upscale at the same time.

Quality: the generic brews are decent (such as IPAs, their lager, the unfiltered wheat) but special beers were either mediocre or just awful. I had their '08 imperial/double stout and their dubbel, along with trying a friend's winter warmer and toddy stout. All four were horrible. For example: The dobbel had no head and no carbonation... it a belgian beer, part of the appeal is the billowy head.

Service: Nothing exceptional. I like the professionalism of the staff, but the knowledge base is lacking. Our server didn't know anything about their beer selection. She could talk a little about the flavors but nothing else.

Selection: About 8-10 brews available.

Edit: I have now tried the food. It is pretty tasty. They have some Asian hot wings that are delicious. As for the beer, the IPA is the best of their regular line-up and they currently had some nice Belgian-style seasonals.

Stopped in here last Saturday afternoon. I saw the Westport area was having a pub crawl, so I was afraid the place was going to packed with loud, pub crawlers. This was not the case. It is a nice looking place. It has a large rectangular bar in the middle of the main room. Tanks were visible through glass in the back of room. The beers are good quality. I particularly like the Newcomb's IPA. Service was helpful. They bartender answered my questions about the place and provided prompt service. I'd like to see a larger selection but it was still pretty good. I didn't try the food but the menu looked like it had some tasty and unique items. This is well worth a stop in Westport. I'll be going back in the future.

In the heart of Westport, which brings a whole slew of other issues in the folds. I have been here many times with various groups, and each time there has been some kind of problem with the server dividing up the ticket. Some will, some won't, some agree at first then back out, etc etc. That aside, the beers are fine but nothing special. Decent matches to the style but all fairly mild and underwhelming. No one will complain about that but for someone looking for beer culture, this is not it. The pizzas are spectacular however, and the crowd is either spares and relaxed, or of the d-bag variety in large numbers. Avoid on St. Patrick's Day.
