Poured a nice raisin brown, typical quad color. Smell is hard to get, can't really get any notes from it, very subtle. But I still get a little leather dark fruit scents.

Tastes great, not as heavy as I was expecting for a quad and the abv. Actually seems quite drinkable. The raisin, leather, fruit, spicy flavors come through but again don't overpower the palate. If this was the only beer I was going to nurse I might be disappointed. But if your looking for something you might be able to have another beer with, it's great. Just watch out for the 9.5%

Overall a really enjoyable beer, I really enjoyed it but I'm not sure if hardcore quad fans will as much.

On tap at The Surly Goat in West Hollywood, CA.

Pours a slightly hazy dark orange with a tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form on the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark fruit, spices, yeast, wood, and a weird slight funky flavor. Taste is of malt, dark fruit, and a very medicinal spice flavor. This beer has a pretty good level of carbonation with a lightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good dubbel but it tastes better than it smells. I am not too sure where the funky aroma is coming from.

Sampled 11/23/2010 at the brewpub. The menu describes this as a Dubbel but at 9% it could probably be a BSDA.

Pours clear dark brown/red like cola with beige head and some decent lacing and retention.

Aroma is pretty involved showing some molasses/brown sugar, fig, bread, and booze.

Flavor is equally complex but just too sweet. Fig (big time), brown sugar, hints of banana bread, and yeast. Booze is noticeable.

Body is medium and well carbonated. Drinkability suffers from the sweetness, but not bad by any stretch.
