On tap at the brewery. Pours a kind of dingy brown with a khaki head. Aroma is tomatoey and ketchupy, with maybe some mustard sharpness. Seriously may as well be a condiment cocktail. Flavor is the same. Harsh acetic tomato sauce. Jesus. Can’t think of any redeeming qualities. Nauseating throughout. I'm giving this the lowest possible score and it's absolutely deserved.

Thanks to drewone for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.
2011 vintage.
Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy bone head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, herbal, spice, and pickle juice aromas. Taste is much the same with herb and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer with some interesting but really weird aromas and flavors.

I think that this is an excellent ale. If it had been listed as a flanders, I think I'd be dropping even higher scores. Regardless, I think that is what they should have promoted it as. Very nice, even, and consistent tones. Wood, sweet cherries, very mild funk tone. Sour is restrained, but present. Really. This is a darn good one in my eyes.

Bottle shared by Bobby at Stone Sour Fest 2011, thanks!
A: Dark reddish brown with a one inch beige head.
S: Notes of figs accompany earth and plum. There's a light lactic presence and a touch of vinegar. Lightly sweet.
T: Moderately tart with a little sweet toasted bread and a lower moderate acetic profile. Fig is pronounced with some oak and a little midpalate sweetness. The finish is dry, tannic, and acetic, with lingering fig, plum, and grape.
M: Medium in body with low carbonation. Mouthfeel is sticky and lightly tannic.
Overall: The combination of figs and traditional wild ale notes is interesting. Worth trying.

Thank you for this rare tick, Bobby.
A: The beer pours a dark amber color with almost no carbonation and a small layer of off-white foam.
S: The figs really stand out. There is a surprising sweetness to this beer with lots of brown sugar notes. In addition to the figs, there is a general fruitiness to the beer, perhaps plums and red wine grapes. Not super acidic, but definitely some tartness.
T: Though the aroma was quite sweet, the flavor is very tart. Highly acidic with a very strong fig flavor. A bit of acetic character along with some other dark fruit notes and red wine. A touch of oak and musty funk.
M: Medium in body with a low level of carbonation.
O: Not a bad sour beer. A pretty strange beer (never had figs in a beer before), but good.

A friend of mine recently moved back from Sonoma and brought a bottle of this to share. 750 ml bottle, capped and waxed, poured into a globe.
A: Hazy reddish-brown in color with a thin off-white head that settles to a thin ring on the edges. Low carbonation, with little lacing.
S: Lots of caramel and spice up front, with a hint of funk and woodiness. Sweet fig aromas linger in the background.
T: Sweet notes of caramel and fig, along with some spicy, dried fruit notes. Slightly funky and woody on the back end, with a tart, dry finish.
Notes: This is a very unique beer. Very complex and full of flavor, yet still moderate in body. Mouthfeel is very silky, and the tart character makes this a delightful beer for a warm summer evening. Freude is yet another solid example of the wild ales that hail from Sonoma County.

Bottle pour at the brewery. A blended, barrel fermented beer with figs.
Mahogany brown with amber highlights; clarity and color are excellent. The tall off-white head settles to a thin collar.
The nose is fruity and vinous, with figs contributing a nice earthy and spicy note. Brown malt, very mild lactic sourness. Pretty unusual and enjoyable.
The palate is interesting. Heavy on the earthy fig flavors, with a nice balance between malt and acid. Some toasted malt and fig sweetness up front, but more sour toward the mid-palate. The finish is tannic, vinous, wine-like and surprisingly hoppy. Very drying. There's a bit of oxidation too, cardboard-like, but it's not too detracting. Pretty unusual and fairly good.
