On tap at the brewpub today.
The beer pours the prototypical orange amber color with good head retention and lacing. The nose is likewise attractvie, as I pick up considerable orange citrus, light pine and sandlewood, and some white pepper. There something of a tropical fruit overtone as well, but I was still unprepared for the level of sweet malt I got on the palate. In fact, on the palate this beer is a completely mess. There's considerable orange citrus and bitterness, but it's not nearly enough to counter and balance the sweet malt I'm getting in this East Coast style iPA, and there's just way too much alcohol on the finish. As a result, the beer tires out the palate very quickly, and it was a chore trying to drink down even a 12 ounce schooner of this stuff. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, but the noticeable alcohol in the finish really hurts this beer's drinkability.
Was debating ordering a glass of this or a glass of the Zack Morgan's pale ale. In retrospect, it's all too apparent that I made the wrong decision.
