Appearance: Poured a hazy golden yellow with some orange tints throughout. The head started off at a very respectable two and a half to three fingers, but the retention was surprisingly poor. With a blink of the eye it was nothing but a cap and left a few dabs of lacing here and there.
Smell: It's a fairly aromatic beer, unfortunately said aroma isn't exactly what I'd call complex. It consists primary of orange peel and wheat malt with a slight spicy edge in the background. It's pretty boring honestly.
Taste: In the smell the orange peel had some balance to it and wasn't overwhelming at all. Not the case here, this is surprisingly bitter. It reminds me of chewing on an orange rind. It's pretty hard to even pick up on any other flavors. There seems to be a light floral hop finish that tries to show itself and could have been a positive aspect, but it's just beaten away by the orange rind. I could continue trying to dig out other flavors from behind the wall of orange, but I'll pass.
Mouthfeel: The suspended yeast provides an enjoyable medium body and the carbonation is good for the style. It even has a slight creaminess to it. This may be the only redeeming aspect of this beer.
Drinkability: If I wanted to chew on an orange rind, I'd chew on an orange rind. I will admit I generally prefer the German wheats over the American versions, but this is especially bad.
Overall this is the second beer I've had from North Peak out of the three that are contract brewed and bottled under their banner. The brewer Mike Hall claims to have installed more than 50 brewing systems across the country and trained ever more brewers, including Sam Calagione. Whether or not that's all true the beer speaks for itself. I'm not impressed.

Poured golden with a fine grainy nose. Tasted like a standard wheat beer, medium bodied and very drinkable. Nothing bad about this beer, but nothing obscenely great either. A very standard and drinkable wheat. I liked it but not enough to buy it on any regularity.
