Pours a slightly hazey golden brown with a thin off white head thay laces nicely. Smells of bready, caramel malts and very light citrusy hops. Tastes of bready malts with complimenting bitterness. Finishes sweet and slighty bitter. A good offering from North Peak. Worth trying.

Pours a cloudy, brown color. 2/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of sweet malt, caramel malt, citrus hops, slight floral, slight yeast, and a hint of alcohol. Fits the style of an Irish Red Ale. Mouth feel is distinctly sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. There is a high level of bitterness. Tastes of citrus hops, sweet malt, caramel malt, hint of floral, hint of yeast, and a hint of alcohol. Overall, good appearance, hop-centric aroma, malt-centric body, too strong of body for a classic Irish.

I picked up a bottle of North Peak's Sinuous last week for $1.69 at The Lager Mill. I tried the original version of this beer before they made it hoppier, but I didn't review it and I thought now would be a good time do that even though the recipe has changed, so lets see how it goes. Bottled on 1/21/15.. Poured from a stubby brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.
A- The label looks nice, it goes ok with the name and it's just slightly eye catching. It poured a nice darker amber red color that took on more of a bright red color when held to the light with two fingers worth of fluffy light tan head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left a good amount of patchy lacing behind. This is a very nice looking beer, I have no complaints at all.
S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart a mixture of floral, soapy, and citrus like hop aromas with no single aspects sticking out the most. Up next comes the malt which impart some nice caramel malt, slightly grainy, sweet malt, light bready and light toasted aromas with no single aspect sticking out the most. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, but I wouldn't mind if they toned down the soapy hops a little.
T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the hops still sticking out the most and they impart the same aspects that they did in the aroma with the citrus hops showing up a lot less and it's the floral and soapy hops that seem to takeover. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yeast and it's followed by the malts which impart the same aspects that they did in the aroma, but this time they are a little lighter. On the finish there's a higher amount of medium bitterness that lingers for a second with some floral and soapy hops showing up in the aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, but I wish the taste was more similar to the aroma.
M- Fairly smooth, crisp, pretty dry on the finish, medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. This beer has a pretty nice mouthfeel that works well with it.
Overall I thought this was a decent beer, but with the new changes to the recipe it really isn't to identifiable as a Irish Red Ale. I remember the original version tasting like a spot on Irish Red Ale and I find it a little weird that they would take this beer in a different direction and I didn't think it worked out as well. This beer has ok drinkability, it's fairly smooth, crisp, pretty dry on the finish, not filling and the taste just did an ok job at holding my attention, I think one is enough for me, I don't have the urge to drink another one in a row. What I like the most about this beer was the appearance, it's a really nice looking beer. What I like the least about this beer was the hops, they didn't need to be there, this beer was fine just the way it was. I wouldn't get this beer again, but if they switch back to the original beer I for sure would. I can;t say I would recommend it, but it may be worth a try to see what you think. All in all I was let down with this beer, it wasn't bad at all, it just wasn't how it used to be and I feel like the extra hops only hurt this beer. It's not a favorite North Peak beer and it's not a great example of the style. Better luck next time guys, this beer was good just how it was.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 1/21/2015. Pours fairly crystal clear reddish copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, apple, light pine, caramel, brown sugar, toast, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of big citrus/pine hops, moderate dark/bready malt, and light yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, orange peel, apple, light pine, caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, light toffee, light roast, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange zest, light pine, caramel, toast, brown sugar, biscuit, light toffee/roast, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice robustness, balance, and complexity of citrus/pine hops, dark/bready malt, and light yeast ester flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice hoppy red ale style. All around good robustness, balance, and complexity of citrus/pine hops, dark/bready malt, and light yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. Pretty disappointed that they went and changed the recipe for this beer. It was my favorite Irish red ale before, but now it barely represents the style at all. However, it is very enjoyable for what it is as a hoppy red ale.

Interesting enough beer... not quite sure how I feel about it. It's intensely bitter/unbalanced. Hard-hitting bitterness with herbal hops, and an enjoyable biscuity malt flavor on the end... but really, no sweetness to be had, and it bums me out -- the bitterness keeps this from being very drinkable/sessionable. Not likely to buy this one again.
