This is an impressionistic review, not comprehensive tasting notes. I dead a sequential tasting of two session IPAs, North Peak Wanderer and New Belgium Slow Ride. While balance is not a common characteristic of IPAs, these two are both not too extreme in their hoppiness, and both are extremely drinkable. I have had session IPAs that were so overhopped I could not imagine having two of them. Between the two, the North Peak is a little fruitier in its hoppiness, the New Belgium a little more floral.

Pours a cloudy, golden color. 1/3 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of strong resin, strong hop, hint of pine, sweet malt, and a hint of yeast. Fits the style of an American IPA. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Strong bitterness as well. Tastes of strong resin, strong hop, hint of pine, sweet malt, and a hint of yeast. Overall, good appearance, aroma, too bitter, and low complexity.

Bottle from the shelves of Tipples. A little surprised this was still in the fridge, as it has a bottling date of 12/3/13 and I grabbed it today (8/16/14). Oh well. Pours murky copper orange color with a very small ring of white head. Aroma is straight malts and some stale hops, bready and caramelly. Flavor is watered down bready malts, light bitter, sticky and sweet. Light to medium bodied with medium low carbonation. Meh. Need to try it fresh.
