A: Very attractive beer - a hazy honey gold with a large fluffy head which lasts for ever and coats the sides of the glass.

S: Trappist yeast, slight fruit and spice. Fairly clean aroma - a more complex aroma would be welcome.

T: Unusual - very strong orange peel taste - the bitterness in this beer almost seems to come more from orange peel than from hops. No detectable hop flavour, but trappist yeast flavour is also strongly present.

M: Good, chewy and full bodied - I assume that sugar is used in this beer as with most trappist styles, but the mouthfeel certainly doesn't suffer from this.

D: The orange peel tang does get a little tiring after a while, but it's an enjoyable beer and I could certainly stand to drink a few of these.

Pours a clear golden color with a half finger of head that dissipated quickly. This is a malt forward offering, but it is relatively light-bodied considering the ABV. The taste is ever so slightly sweet upfront with a dry, mildly hoppy finish. This is one of the most well-balanced beers that I have had the pleasure of sampling.

A - The tripel is a darker caramel gold color, still translucent but on the outermost edges. A half a finger of head, white and dense, doesn't do much in the way of lacing.

S - Yeasty sugars and anise, along with a bit of odd funk (not wild yeast, mind you). As the tripel warms, fuller sugars emerge, a dense semi-sweet ale.

T - The first sip is filling, sweet with a strong current of alcohol. The sugars are present, sweetly fruity, along with a fresh, musty yeast strain. It's funkiness is not wild, rather anisey and spicy. Mild carbonation, perhaps responsible for the underwhelming head, is a push, never providing the sharp crispness that carbonation needs to give. Very dry, especially in the finish, the ale seems to have some age to it. I recall enjoying the bottle much more.

M - The mouthfeel is spice- and yeast-driven, a fruity rich ale that has enough darker flavors (anise and pepper) to balance it out.

D - At 8%, this was a slow-going sipper. I'm not sure that I'd want to bite off much more, very sweet and too bold.
