Picked this up in the Chimay gift pack - a red, white and blue along with a nifty 16 oz Chimay goblet. My first time trying this beer.
Pours an absolutely fantastic, frothy, massive 1.5 inch head. Shows no signs of disappearing. It really is beautiful. The beer itself is a hazy deep gold. Little bits of yeast swirl in the bottom of the glass, much like a Hefe.
Smells like yeast, some hops, and fruity, tangy goodness. Something of a pear smell to this one.
Taste is wonderful. A spicy, hoppy flavor hits your tongue from the first small sip. Reminds me of cloves, cinnamon, and yeasty bread. There's alcohol in here too, as the smooth brew goes down, it warms the mouth and throat a little. Finish is yeast, fresh tasting malts, and a dry fruitiness, like a white wine. Still something in the taste that brings to mind fresh pears. This is a bitter, bubbly, complex beer.
Mouthfeel is warm, dry, and refreshing. Think cider on a cold fall evening.
Is it drinkable? Absolutely yes. My small bottle disappeared all too quickly. This is a sipping beer. Still, I'd be careful with this one, as one could easily overindulge (if it wasn't cost-prohibitive). That said, it's still a good thing they don't serve this in pints.
The Belgian monks who brew this are quite clever. Down enough Chimay, and suddenly that whole celibacy vow thing doesn't seem half bad!

Poured from their capped bottle into a chalice, nice two finger head, tight small cream colored bubbles, left significant lacing. Did not hold as long as the Chimay red, but certainly above average. Color is a hazy straw orange.
Smell some nuttiness and slightly more hop notes than what I have come to expect from Chimay, but definitely pleasing. As I often say in my reviews, this is not my best area, so I often miss subtle notes.
First taste had an almost almond bright note, then the citrus, last some spice, very subtle peppery bite, not bad, don't panic, it isn't spicy in the sense that it creates heat. Like all of the Chimay brands, other flavors show up as they warm. The chalice is a must!
Mouthfeel is full and rich all the way. Unlike American attempts at this type, the Belgians know how to hide their ABV!
Overall, I prefer Chimay Red, followed by Blue, then this. That being said, this is an outstanding Belgian Triple, well worth the experience, my guess is it is a great first Triple, because the color and aroma will please many different palates.
