pours a very cloudy, burnt orange color. Thin white head. some sediment is visible, and i poured the beer according to the instructions in the booklet that came with the Chimay gift set, leaving 1 cm of the liquid in the bottle.
The beer smells very bready like a sticky sweet bun, freshly cooked baked goods. That's that Belgian yeast at work. Some funky, earthy, almost vegetal undertones as well.
As soon as the brew touched my tongue, I knew it was going to be something special. A nice, bright citric flavor is the first thing i notice, followed by even more fruitiness from the yeast subtleties.
The breadiness from the smell is certainly there as well, as well as the sweetness in the middle of the flavor profile. This tripel is just oozing with complexity.
Medium bodied, medium-high carbonation. It has a really smooth taste with a decent amount of body to it.
I'd consider this beer dangerously drinkable. It doesn't taste like an 8% beer, and the bright tangy quality allows it to be quaffed with ease. Overall I am very satisfied with my first ever authentic trappist ale. Highly recommended for any beer lover.
