Poured from 33cl bottle into Chalice.

A. Poured almost 2 fingers of head. Great retention. Solid thick lacing. Color is chestnut brown.

S. Nice dark fruit and caramel malt aroma. Dark grape, raisins, a litte bit of hops. Some candi sugar aroma.

T. Sweet. Dark fruit, candi sugar, caramel sweetness. Really good dubbel flavor. A little bit of hop bitterness lies beneath all the other Belgian flavors.

M. Medium/full bodied. Finishes with some lingering sweetness. Medium carbonation.

O. Very nice dubbel. Maybe a litte bit more flavor would set it apart from some of the other top Dubbels. Mouthfeel is good, but also a touch lacking. Thats all just comparing Chimay Red to the other top beers in this category. This is a very good beer.

Appearance: A nice dark amber, cloudy but by no means to dark to see through. Also, good initial head consisting of large bubbles, and some short lived lacing.

Smell: A very powerful malty presence, consisting of some dark fruits and some big phenolic yeast notes. Pilsner malt in the back, maybe a touch of hops.

Taste: Right up front carbonation opens the palate, a crisp wave of dark fruit, plum and date, hits the tongue and a pilsner malt character finishes the sip off. Spicy yeast with some phenolic fruit.

Mouthfeel: The heavy carbonation really helps open up your taste buds, and disappears after a short time of sitting in your mouth.

Overall: A great dubbel the balance is stellar, love the pilsner malt finish. Overall a fantastically flavorful and drinkable beer.

Bottle to Chimay Goblet

Dont understand the bottle code, so oh well.
Purchased a single 11.2 from Bevmo, Chino Hills, CA

App- A murky red and brown color that looks a bit too dark for caramel brown but not light enough for a crimson. A bit of a gusher from the bottle. Didnt let stand long enough to let yeast settle. A small one finger head falls to a sheen of topping lace. Only a tad bit of cling.

Smell- It's very soft all the way around. A soft yeast. A soft damp fruit note. A soft malt on the final pull of the nose.

Taste- A very soft dubbel with a lot of yeast behind it. The malts and fruits balance quite well. Not overpowering by any means but still quite good with a thin flavor profile all around.

Mouth- A little bit of a light medium body with a light/medium carbonation with a lot of bubbles in it. Nice residual fruit and yeast.

Drink- This wasn't as good as I remember. A bit thinner and missing that full bodied spicy dubbel taste. Ill probably come back to this one but not anytime soon.

This one gushed a little when opened, nothing wild though, just a slow rise up and over flowing. in the glass it is a semi-hazy reddish orange tint with a finger of off white head.
nosing into the glass shows mostly soft spices, similar to what a rye would impart, and some clean pears and light fruits.
Flavors are a mellow malt backbone with earthy noble hobs over the top, and some spices.
Mouthfeel is medium thin, not a really long finish either.
