Landlord Dark originates from the multi award-winning Landlord Pale Ale but brewed with caramelised sugars to give a rich yet light and drinkable dark ale.

This perfectly balanced mellow dark beer has body and depth. It has a fruity, toasted aroma with hints of chocolate, citrus and roasted malts on the tongue. A darker shade of pale!

Formerly called "Ram Tam"

After years of looking for this it eventually turned up at my nearest pub! It was at a festival, served on gravity. After three days on tap it was absolutely gorgeous.Because of the serving method there wasn't much head but the way the beer had developed was magnificent.

From cask at Town Hall Tavern in Leeds. Finally, all the TT ales! The promised land. Listed as “Ram Tam” on their chalkboard draft list, which is pretty cool. Similar to their Dark Mild but a stronger body, hop presence, and less funk. Doesn’t immediately jump out as a dark Landlord but I get the concept. Rich, roasty, super drinkable. Has a slight funk as I’m guessing the style should have but I’ll take a Landlord over this most days. Regardless, delicious and quite a treat.

enjoying this with friends watching the liverpool brentford game, first ever edma, not a whole lot going on here, pleasent enough though, what flavours that are there, coffee and chocolate primarily, are nice, but it is very much on the mild side.

Chocolate brown with ruby highlights + a thin lacey tan head; apple, biscuit + brown sugar nose; toast crust, treacle, carob, hints of prune + dried peel and a long peppery Fuggles finish; smooth, dry, round.

Styrian Goldings, EKG, Fuggles

4 x 5

Not really sure what to make of this: too bitter + dry for a dark mild but not malty enough for porter. It's... a dark ale.
There's enough char where there must be roast, not just a bit of patent or a bunch of dark invert. Trouble is, while that gives lots of character, it kills most of the Golden Promise + house yeast character.
Interesting enough to hold your attention while staying quaffable, which at this strength makes it the ideal session pint. But still something less than it could be.

Disappointing only by Landlord's high standards.

500ml bottle.
L: Clear, very dark russet colour with a thin but long-lasting ochre head and spotty lacing.
S: Light, toasted malt and a hint of strawberry jam.
T: Clean, earthy and subtle chocolate malt flavour. Becomes very dry.
F: Light body with soft carbonation.
O: I don’t drink many milds, particularly dark milds, but this is pleasingly dry and nicely balanced.

L- Superficially black a halogen torch held behind the glass reveals a very dark ruby red. Pours with 4,, deep tan head of super-fine bubbles. ps 15mins later, head holds very well!
S- Surprisingly mild for the colour, just some toasty grains for me.
T- Well roasted malts, giving it a deeply toasty flavour. I've perhaps chilled this one a bit much, and expect it would/will open up siginificantly if left to warm a touch. Good hop notes into the finish.
F- I'm quite unused to this style Dark-Mild and it's something different. Certainly full flavoured, almost slightly pungent, and yet it somehow (!!?) does not feel under-powered despite being a really pretty shy 4.1%. I think there's decent richness in the Feel sufficient to avoid any sense of thin-ness.
O- Something a bit different for me, I don't know if perhaps the Dark-Mild style is more common up north. I can see this beer will have it's fans, it's well constructed, the pretty full-on flavour is satisfying, yet if you wanted to session it you could.
500ml bottle BB: Aug-21. Bought from TremblingMadness/York/UK as part of a 40-50 beer DIY/pick-your-own order sent to London.

Almost black with a glorious deep brown head. Auburn red against the light.
The smell of sweet toasted malt.
Mild by name and taste. A subtle balance of malt and hop.
Wonderful feel from a cask dispensed beer.
Really enjoyable.

A very nice beer and the first of the evening at the Chelmsford Winter Beerfest 2011. It was a bit warm due to all the casks being simply mounted on shelves inside where there was heating etc

It was great nonetheless. This was a really 'solid' beer, good in almost every way. I can't remember much else but it was really very good!

Cask pint in Brigantes Bar and Brasserie, York, June 2010

Poured a deep dark ruby red... Creamy tan head poured fairly thickly then faded to thin layer.... decent light lacing

Aroma - Nice strong chocolate maltiness, good roastiness, caramel and toasted bread, light dusty notes, lots of fruitiness (plums, figs, some blackcurrents), faint liquorice notes, spicy, nice peppery hop bitterness...

Taste - Definite chocolate notes, roasted malts, quite earthy, light coffee, light nutty and caramel sweetness, fruity (blackcurrents, plums), peppery, strong eartiness, nice hop bitterness...

Feel - Pretty smooth.. Medium bodied. At 4.3 % an extremely quaffable and sessionable ale...

Overall - A supreme example of cask beer at it's best and the finest pint of mild i've ever had... if you get the chance try this..

Fair ebony-brown, shimmering with a maple amber-red tint. No head. Sweet nose is full of caramel... and nothing else. The flavor is typical of the style, with caramel and toast and a bit of cola, coffee, and burnt grain. There is also a pinch of noble, grassy hops. Very thick mouthfeel, too thick, really, for what it is. A fine and dandy, average mild lacking in depth, dryness, and drinkability - not exactly an exemplar of the style. Disappointing.
