Wolters Pilsener Premium (green USA bottle) has a thick, frothy, white head, a bubbly, golden appearance, and moderate lacing. The aroma, which was not at all skunked, is of soda cracker and grassy hops. Taste is of sweetness, cracker, and grassy hops. The mouthfeel is medium, and Wolters Pilsener Premium finishes crisp, clean, and refreshing. RJT

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #69 (October 2012):

Not half bad, unfortunately that means this beer lands in the middle of the pack and it is a pretty big pack these days. Flavors did not come off as fresh, very cooked as many green bottled imports can be. This beer seems to have lost something on the way here. As with their Fest-Bier we’d bet that from the source is substantially better … perhaps a night and day difference.

STYLE: German Pilsner
ABV: 4.9%

LOOK: Golden straw hue, great clarity, sufficient head

SMELL: Herbal, grassy, faint lemongrass, bready, cooked breakfast cereal

TASTE: Very smooth, nice crisp snap, modest hop bitterness, herbal, mineral, creamed corn, bready, leafy, quick dry finish

Cheap pint can, canned Dec/14 best by Mar/16. Clear gold with thick soapy white head, settles slowly with a light spray of lace down the glass. Smell: lightly bready and floral, grape. Taste: white grape, white nectarine, spicy, a little biscuit, lightly grassy. Sweet tea feel to the finish, not crisp but with decent bitterness. Decent.

I'mnot sure where I picked this up; likely Krugel's in W-B. I like this pils; very workmanlike and extremely clean. It's an extremely bright gold in the glass but I don't think the head stuckaround long enough. The Wolters is not an aggressively flavored beer but who wants one all the time? Good job and an interesting new item for me.

Thanks to bu11zeye for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a clear, light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is not good at all. As can be expected from green-bottled pilseners, this beer is skunked.

The flavor is actually better. I don't get much, if any skunk in the flavor. What I do get is some corn and grain notes. Even though it is not skunked, the flavor is not very good.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Still in the case when I bought these Wolters biers, so I hope the green bottle effect doesn't kill this experience. This is mass produced German beer, pours a fizzy yellow strar color with a bright white head, speckled lacing. Aroma stale cereal malts with mineral water tones with a touch of honey, hops are really faint in the nose. Flavor a bit of stale cardboard offness, semi sweet cereal grains, faint hop watery approach. This is a pale comparison of a good German pils. Mouthfeel is watery carbonation is a bit much, pretty offensive. Drinkability overall is poor, I won't be back for this one anytime soon.

11.2 oz. green bottle

A nearly clear, golden color with a very standard 2" high head and dissipates in moderate fashion with pretty decent lace.

big yeast up-front with spicey green veggies, meaty, slight onions, sour notes, gentle malt, bready sweetness with spicey-herbalhops.

A very clean , light and crisp-jazzy feel with excellent yeast flavor's, very hearty, spicey-herbal, sour veggies, jazzzy hops add depth with a clean and gentle malt.

This one is a bit of a nice surprise since exported green bottled beer is rarely high quality.

Tried this one at Miss Kitty's Grape Escape wine bar in Galena IL. Transcribed from my cocktail napkin notes...

A - Pale flaxen gold with a small but tight white cap. Poor retention, little lace.

S - White bread, hints of saltine (but less than others of the style), and soft biscuit notes. Rounder and less acrid (hoppy?) than other G-pils.

T - Similar to the nose. White bread, crackers, a little bit of salt.

M - LIght bodied, medium carbonation, pretty even keeled.

D - Not bad, just extremely boring. This would be better classified under "Euro pale lager" or something rather than a spicy, hopy, crisp and salty German pils.

Nice golden-amber with a rich, thick white head. Lace is spotty, though.

Aroma is strong and grainy, bordering on skunky. Not bad, still.

Taste is smooth, even creamy somehow. Nicely refreshing lager here, not reflecting any of the "skunkiness" that seemed present in the aroma. Just a highly-enjoyable, drinkable German pils that's well worthy.

Although my nose was initially disappointed by the soft waft of skunkiness, Wolters Pils satisfied in the end.

The appearance was good, displaying a crystal clear deep golden body beneath a frothy head of bright white. The head retention could have been better, but it did leave sheets of spotty lace behind.

The flavor was soft and very well balanced, displaying grassy and gently floral hop flavors over a softly sweet maltiness. It's moderate carbonation level accentuated the malt, leaving it almost creamy across the palate despite its medium-light body; although it didn't help with head retention, so there's the trade-off.

Just enough character leaves it charming and tasty, but also quite quaffable. Remarkably drinkable!

Poured one finger of head on a clear, golden colored body.
The aroma is grain and barnyard.
The taste is mildly bitter with a honey sweet ending.
The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation.
The taste is too sweet and not bitter enough. Not the greatest pilsener.

Poured from my trusty 12 fl oz (355 ml) bottle into a tulip glass.

I've wondered for the longest time if the cheapest beer from Germany is far superior to the cheapest U.S. beer. So far, Yes, Yeah and Hell Yah. Pours a very light sunshine yellow (almost like that of a wine spritzer), with an OK head. The nose is light, airy, mild floral, hops and grass; Nothing at all overpowering. A nice taste of lemon and grapefruit and I do detect a white wine spritzer, but GOOD white wine, that is, along with a bit of the buttery and corn at the finish. It's an OK, no frills, brew: The type that's economically prepared and probable high-risk to skunkiness. This is decent pilsner: Nothing fancy, but nothing bad either. And dirt cheap! My supermarket (Pathmark) is selling this stuff 10 for $10 ($1 a 500ml can). That's cheaper than a can of Coke! A Decent, Refreshing, German Pilsner.

6/15...pours bright gold, very little foam remains. Light pils nose. Light citrus tinged pils flavor. Lemon pokes through at the end. Clean. Needs more bite. But otherwise clean crisp pils.

Poured from a green 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of grains, malts, just a touch of skunkiness. Taste is malts, slightly sweet, some grains, a touch of bitterness at the finish. Refreshing and easy drinking. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a good session beer.
