Presentation: Really good looking foil label that is very eye-catching. Label gives a bit of brewery info, web info, States “Brewed according to the “German Purity Law””. 11.2oz. Neck label is also very decorative.

Appearance: Warmed for 10min before aggressively pouring form 11.2oz green bottle into a 16oz English pint. Pours out very clear golden copper color with a 3 finger white airy foam head. Head retention was 4min 48sec before slowly fading to a thick foam coating and ring. Excellent lacing.

Smell/Aroma: Smells of bready malts with an earthy slightly floral hop accent.

Flavor/Taste: Tastes of bready yeasty malts on the front end with a nice earthy slightly floral hop bite at the midpoint that turns bready on the finish with a slight grain aftertaste.

MouthFeel/Drinkability: On the light side of medium bodied with a fair amount of carbonation. Easy drinking.

Overall/Comments: Overall a fairly unspectacular offering that is very respectable and very drinkable. I enjoyed this. Classified as a Marzen/Oktoberfest @ 5% ABV. Consumed 4/28/2013.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Presentation: It was poured from a green bottle into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: The body has a nice copper color with good clarity and some light visible carbonation. It sports a small white cap of foam on top that fades slowly and leaves only traces of lacing.

Smell: Its aroma has a classic German malt and hop character. It brings fresh bready and sweet candy like notes mixed with herbal and spicy hops.

Taste/Palate: The aroma is mirrored exactly by its flavor. A mellow malty sweetness blends with a good balance of hop spice and herbal notes. The palate has pleasant carbonation and a soft feel making it very drinkable.

Notes: Overall I would say this is a very solid and well balanced example of the style.

Smell: Cherry and biscuit maltiness with metallic and spicy noble hops.

Taste: Nice malts with biscuit, cherry and hay. Long lasting spicy bitterness at the end.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, relatively light body, dry finish.

Drinkability: Very solid, easy drinking Marzen.

Green bottled Euro lager I've never seen this brand before in the Burgh...this one pours much like a Lowenbrau or Hofbrauhaus festbier. Does not look like the Marzen variety of festbiers. Bright white head forms thick with an apple juice like straw golden body. Aroma has cereal pale malts with a dose of herbal noble hops backing up the malts. Quality flavor full malt driven biscuit/cracker flavor with a rush of herbal/spicy hops to balance things out, a nice mineral water combination to blend into a cohesive flavor. It came straight from a case so light exposure hasn't been a problem, I'd be worried about this beer if it would have been in a six pack holder. This is more like the beer they drink at Oktoberfest than the caramel toasted malt driven versions we see here stateside. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied smooth flowing carbonation, nothing to complain about here. Drinkability overall is solid I could drink a few of these but I may get bored with it.

A - Pours golden with a foamy white head, decent lacing.

S - Smells of skunky malt. There is some smell of bread, like a semolina loaf.

T - It is crisp, and very smooth. But there isn't that much to it. Not sure of the ABV, but it just seems like a light beer.

M - Carbonation is there, and it is light. Just feels too light. Would enjoy more if it had a bit more body.

D - It is a drinkable beer. Just wasn't into having another.

Is this what a typical German Marzen tastes like? I didn't think so, but if so then maybe the style isn't for me.

A green bottle of unknown provenance would generally lead me to leave this beer on the shelf. But I had not seen this beer at the store before so I assumed it was relatively fresh. The price and 6-pack carton that protected the bottles helped with the decision.

Pale amber color with one finger of head that quickly settled to a thin film. Some spotty lacing is left on the glass.

It smells mildly skunked. Still enough of the floral hops comes through to make it somwhat appetizing. I don't get much malt in the aroma.

This would probably be a pretty good example of the style if it was fresher. Quite a bit of floral hops can be tasted along with a touch of toasted malt. Some skunked flavors as well.

Light body with active carbonation. A little too lively.

Easy drinking beer. Couple of the bottles in the center of the 6-pack was more enjoyable as it did not suffer as much skunking. Reviewed what 66% of the beer I bought represented.

Pours a light golden with a thin head and lace. Smells of alcoholic malt and simple hops. Taste is sharp, clean and dry. There is a wheaty tang and plenty of bubbles. Clean finish with a slight hoppy aftertaste. Further on, the glass starts to smell like dried, old beer. Overall pretty good, probably will not be buying this one, but not a bad beer.

I was able to find a festbier on the shelf in May?, why not. Poured from a green 11.2 oz.bottle. Has a rich golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is a bit skunky, damn green bottles. Taste also has a bit of skunk to it, some sweetness, rather mild flavor. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a mediocre offering.

A: The beer is crystal clear deep yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high and dense white head.
S: There are light aromas of skunk in the nose (presumably from the green bottle) along with some notes of bready malts.
T: The beer is quite malty and has flavors of toasted and bready malts along with a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a bit smooth on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: There’s nothing overly special about the taste of this beer but it is quite easy to drink and the mouthfeel seems a little smoother compared to other beers in the style.

Beer of the month club.

Crystal clear and light golden in color with a near pure white 3 finger head and moderate lacing.

Sweet toasted grains and floral hops in the aroma.

Taste mimics the aroma with the addition of some light citric tartness and a moderate bitterness in the end.

Medium-light in body, with a slight prickle on the tongue. Somewhat dry.

Not a bad session brew, just not a lot of depth.

I got this with the Beer of the Month club. I was eager to try it considering how much I enjoyed their Pilsner. Talk about false expectations.

This poured decent with some foam and moderate to less than adequate lacing. The nose was malty and subtle.

When I tasted it I thought I had the wrong beer at first. This simply tastes exactly like the pilsner with just different roasted malts added and the overall all result is not good. They took a great pilsner and ruined it.

I was very disappointed. I drank all 3 bottles hoping one was a bad bottle but all were disappointing.

I would recommend avoiding this one.

a - golden color with small head and little retetion. Fairly average and nothing really impressive for the style.

s - extremely skunked but some grassy, hay, earthy smells coming through

t - ignoring the skunky flavor this is actually a quite flavorful German Oktoberfest style beer. Nice flavorings and a crisp hop bite in the finish. Very sessionable and flavors are very well balanced leaving plenty of room for downing large quantities without the taste getting too overpowering in flavor.

m - fine for the style

o - I think this would be outstanding if it weren't skunked or I could get this fresh. It still was quite enjoyable none the less. Very hard to find, I never heard of it before.

Included in my latest shipment of Beer of the Month offerings. I like Marzens, but the timing is a little peculiar. Pours an unimpressive light amber color with almost no head at all. Nose is mild but grainy with a hint of sugar. Not terribly inspiring.

Interesting in that it seems very blase at first before the chocolate malts really start appearing in the finish and aftertaste. Brown sugar, baker's chocolate, dark fruit and a touch of crispy burnt notes. Also a touch of metal, but again, the finish is clean and tasty. Very little carbonation, which isn't a problem.

Not a Marzen I'd go out of my way for, even if it is from die Fatherland.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a dirty gold color, with a thin white head that fades very quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains pungent light malts, some honey and some hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of honey, caramel, some fruit and some spice. Then a thin malt character and lager yeast provide some breadiness. The hops presence is mild but creates some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: A little flavorful, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, not the best representation of style as it’s much lighter than most others, not a beer that I would be too quick to choose again.

Ick, green bottle!

Pours a light 1/4 finger fizzy head that fades semi quickly over crystal clear pale golden pilsner color.

Nose has just a touch of skunk hidden in there that disappears very quickly though almost as if it was my imagination, but otherwise some nice toasty malts, light Munich malt, cracked straw, hint of lager fruits, light toasty caramel.

Taste come clean and semi crisp, light overall, toasty malts, light sweet caramel malts and reddish Munich malts, light straw, hint of skunk flavor, some light sweet and fruity lager flavors, hint of grassy almost spicy light hops. Finishes a bit sticky and still semi sweet, not dry and clean like I expected, light toasty reddish malts and bit of straw lingering, hint of grassy hop too.

Mouth is lighter bodied, decent carb.

Overall not bad, a slight bit of skunk probably due to the green bottle, but nice malts, hint of hops, finish isn't great either.
