Single Engine Red is an amber-style ale; very flavorful but not heavy, strong or cloyingly sweet. It can be compared to Killian’s Irish Red, although it differs in that ours is an ale, not a lager. However, it has some of the same malty highlights as Killian’s. The name comes from a competition we held prior to opening the brewery. We asked locals to name our red ale; this was the winner/

really basic stuff, but drinkable, satisfying, and relatively well made, kind of just a beer for me though in this style, nothing to write home about, although there are some malt layers in here. rich amber color to this, a deeper red to it, and a short lightly tanned head from the tap, lots of big fizzy soda type bubbles rising up. the nose here has a little chocolate richness to it, a light raisin thing, and some more familiar toasted and kilned and baked and caramelized grain attributes, seemingly quite lightly hopped, cleanly fermented, and in good balance. the flavor agrees, all about the malt, not overly sweet which lends to drinkability, and its got an earthy and autumnal vibe to it overall, not too rich or big feeling, in fact a little thin, but the flavor is long. good carbonation, light on body, toasted breadiness to finish, nothing much from the yeast, and maybe faint bitter citrus to the hops to keep this even keeled, but its not in the hoppy red family at all. this is maybe a shade more interesting than run of the mill, but its not compelling enough either in flavor or quality to bring me back for a second pint. versatile with food, which is always a plus, not my favorite from denali though...

Pours a nice, clear mahogany color with a moderate, white head that stuck around for a short while.
Taste was left lacking. Was very light overall with some malt sweetness and a light bitter finish, but not much else. Was hoping for more but...

Right place right time on our cruise/land our. Maybe this brew doesn’t get great reviews but I really liked this. Maybe just the ambiance of Alaska. Don’t care still hit the spot.
