I never would have bought this beer except as I was cruising through the aisles at my favorite beer store I noticed a sign for two free glasses with the purchase of a case of Hopbot IPA. So I got out my iPhone and checked it out and thought OK, and put the case of Hopbot IPA 12oz bottles on my hand-cart.
A good deal I thought for $34.00 - two free glasses with a case of IPA 12oz bottles brewed with Citra, Centennial, Mosaic, Summit, and Willamette hops. I was a little concerned that I couldn't find a brew date on the container but I figured I love the brews from the NE US and Ontario is right next door.
I was right. There are many good IPAs out there and this is one of them. Everything is there the way it should be - aroma, flavor, balance, blah, blah, blah; but also the little things like lacing and head retention. Just a real nice IPA. Thanks Hopcity. I'm finishing my 4th Hopbot and thinking, damn ... life is good.

I'm on a mission to find the best locally brewed IPAs (southern Ontario). At the moment I must say this is the benchmark for me. HOP BOT is a perfectly balanced IPA. Just the right amount of bitterness/sweetness combination. Decent amount of carbonation. Beautiful orange colour. Citrus, pine and earthy feel to this lovely beer. 7.1% ABV, which truly is masked, means you probably don't need to drink more than one (which is a good thing).

If IPAs are not your thing but you like the idea of it, this brewery has a pale ale called "Big Mouth Pale Ale" which is literally a lighter version of this in all aspects. Give both a try; you won't regret it!

Appearance - This beer poured an almost completely clear orangy amber color (might be a chill haze) with 2 fingers of off white head that fades to leave a ring around the edge with a light film.

Aroma - The aroma is of a strong citrus note, I get grapefruit, orange, mango, followed by caramel malts and a very light pine in the bacground.

Taste - The flavor profile is definitely something different from the norm, You get the same grapefruit, orange peel, and mango folllwed by what im getting as a light watermelon, then some caramel malts and pine, the pine is very light in this one though.

Feel - The feel is where I feel this one could be stronger, its a very watery feeling light medium body with some very light pricks coming from the carbonation.

Overall - No beer can be perfect and the flaws in feel are obvious with this one. With that said the aroma and flavor profile really do make this beer an interesting one to try and it does end up being a very smooth refreshing fruity beer. Definitely worth trying if you can get your hands on it!

Call me under-educated when it comes to beer, but this IPA is second to none in the local Ontario craft brew market. Absolutely exquisite pint. Orange-copper look, thick foamy head, tangy, quite bitter... just a joy to drink. Cheers.

Hazy amber color with low activity. Slightly frothy beige 2 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with moderate legs. Flavors of butter, pineapple, orange, lemon, faint clove and pine, herbal and floral hops. Pleasant fruity sugary feel with a dash of zesty bitter citrus. Slick and smooth medium body with the perfect amount of crispy carbonation. Medium to strong finish, lingers for a while, with citrus and a grassy hoppy feel. Overall very good quality craft. Delicious flavors, good balance, well intensified. Fresh but still bitter. No alcohol feel.

Got this in a can at lcbo. If you're looking for a nice easy going hoppy beer i'd go to this everytime. nice citrusy hops with multiple dimensions of flavour profile. Definitely a mild bisquit malt backbone present but the hops stole the show in the batch i got. Hard to believe a 7.1 percent beer can be this refreshing.

A: [3.00] Clear tangerine color beer. The beer has 1 1/2 fingers of white head. The head forms nice arcs of lace on the glass. Unfortunately the bottle does not list the ABV or any dates.

S: [3.25] Initially I was getting some pine scents from the hops but it settled into a nice caramel malt smell.

T: [2.75] The hop flavor, if it existed, is really faded. I get mild lemon rind and grass followed by some caramel in the malts.

M: [3.00] Medium body. Decent carbonation. There is a lingering dryness from the hops that comes across as medicinal.

O: [3.00] With a name like HopCity I expected a hop forward beer. This drinks more like an APA. It is possible that the hops have faded, it could have been on the shelf for months/years (no dates). I won't buy this again (I rarely by IPAs with no dates - but I saw it when traveling).

A-Golden colour with a hint of amber. White head that lingers for a little and then dissipates
S-I get more malt than hops on this IPA. Very feint hop aroma in the citrus and dank zone
T-Very mild bitterness with the malt overtone being the dominant flavour profile
M-Light mouthfeel with carbonation at an acceptable point
O-This beer is okay...I was expecting a little more

Poured from a cold 12 oz. bottle into an ale glass.
Appearance: Copper, lovely, half a finger of head. Some aeration.
Aroma: Some malt, lots of hops, and ripe mango in the background.
Taste: Complex. Lots of flavors. Can taste a bunch of different hops and taste the noble heritage of some of them. Some ripe fruit also and bitterness (but not unpleasantly so).

Mouthfeel: Some lingering bitterness, but in a pleasant way.
Overall: A gorgeous complex beer with lots of nobility and some ripe fruit. Definitely buying more of these.

Thank-you Canada!

A really nice IPA. I like the citrusy and hop flavors that came off of this beer. CANADA knows beer. They have a solid IPA here. I would suggest trying it.

Hop City Brewing Co. "Hopbot IPA"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness dating but there might be a production code... "K234 0253"
$1.49 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Hopbot is a solid offering that delivers a pleasant blend of tropical/citrus fruit (pineapple, mild grapefruit, lemon zest, tangerine) as well as earthy, resinous, leafy, and somewhat grassy hops atop a solid caramelish malt base. It's anchored by a rock solid bitterness, and finishes dry with residual hop fruitiness, resin, and earth. It lingers! Although it does have some serious hops to it, it's not exactly head turning, nor particularly original - BUT it's a quality IPA that satisfies! Worth trying.

OK so I had this in August and wasn't overly impressed. Just tried the last bottle about 8/9 months later and it seemed to age well. Very surprising. Give it a shot and see if you get similar results

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Wait, is it made of hops, or does it run on hops? Regardless, this stuff pours a clear copper-amber topped by a finger of cream-white foam. The nose comprises cabbage-like greens, light candied orange peel, and very light biscuit. The taste holds notes of caramel, tobacco, pine resin, and a bit of menthol-y mint. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, something seems off with this beer, the hops all over the place, vacillating between in-your-face resin and vegetables and limp menthol. It just didn't do anything positive for me.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a beige color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of light hops. Taste is well balanced hops and malts, light bitterness, just a bit on the bland side. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Serving Type: 355 mL Bottle

A- Deep Orange/Amber topped by 2 1/2 fingers of off-white head. Good retention. Minimal lacing.

S- Lots of citrus going on here. Mainly grapefruit and a little bit of orange. Lots of great pine notes. Sweet, almost tropical fruit notes (pineapple) with a little bit of sweet maltiness.

T- Citrus bomb. A lot like biting into a grapefruit! A little bit of orange comes through, as well as some deep pines notes. Although there is a lot of hoppy notes here, nothing is really over the top. Extremely well balanced.

M- Medium Carbonation and medium body.

O- Hop Bot is an excellent IPA and easily one of the best IPA's i've had that was brewed on the east coast. Delicious and well balanced. You can really tell that this beer was brewed with great skill and care.

473ml can into nonic pint. "programmed with 5 west coast american hops" -- citra, centennial, mosaic, summit, willamette. "M03412" or "N03412" printed on the bottom of the can.

a: partially opaque light amber or deep orange. three and a half fingers of fluffy bone-coloured head. little lacing

s: lemon, melon, pineapple, pine and grapefruit. sweet caramel malt and bready notes come through. great aroma

t: fruit profile is not as vibrant and dominant as in the nose, but it's still there. definitely more balanced. candied pineapple and dank pine. lesser lemon, grapefruit, and orange notes. herbal, floral touches, and bready caramel malt flavours. good hop bitterness closing things out

m: medium mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. creamy and sticky

o: a good IPA from ontario. balanced & not overly hoppy

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Purchased from LCBO for under $3 CDN.

Appearance - clear golden color, two fingers of head, minimal bubbles inside.

Smell - nice bouquet of citrus some grapefruit, orange and passion fruit being the stars. Not overwhelming but balanced and well rounded. Maybe a subtle lychee aroma too.

Taste - grapefruit orange and some sour lemons are the big stars here, a bit sharp, but pretty good. Mild caramel balance in behind.

Mouthfeel - surprisingly prickly given the lack of bubbles in the beer. Clean and dry finish.

Overall - A pretty good IPA with a nice non overwhelming fruit flavor and aromas. Not quite as good as a couple of the others in Ontario but worth a shot and I foresee myself picking this up again

12 oz bottle was poured into a nonic glass.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a puffy layer. It is an orange color with great clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Frothy lacing down the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Grassy, herbal, slight citrus, toasted, pale, and caramel malts.

Taste: Herbal tea, grassy, slight citrus, toasted, bready, and caramel malts with bitterness in the rear.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, crisp, light to medium bodied, mild bitterness, and medium carbonation.

Overall: Not as citrusy or even tropical as I would have liked. Malty in the rear and a decent amount of bitterness. A decent IPA, but I would drink others before this one though.

Aggressive upfront grapefruit hop flavour typical of a west coast style IPA. Almost too much at first, but then the brew finishes with a hint of caramel malty sweetness that balances this one off - it really grew on me.

This is a very malty IPA...typical of most east coast breweries trying to copy the awesomeness of west coast style. This beer comes of more bitter and malty and unfortunately does not get the perfect attributes of citra hop. The color was a slightly hazy amber with thin white head and no lace. This beer is ok nothing to rave about. I would not try this again.....falls well short of the mark for me.

Bright amber with rimming pocked taupe head that rings.
Drooly herb and Lemonhedz nose.
Thread of toffee and toast crust then dried rind, grapefruit oil, kiwi, pineapple, orange and rosin hops, with a touch of burnt grass.
Orange Swedish fish ending and long barky linger.
Med-lt, oily, round.

-- Citra, Centennial, Mosaic, Summit and Willamette.

Sweet malts and a nice, shifty hop bill: Citra definitely, some Willamette wood, too, Summit for a bit of dank and Mosaic fruit salad. The malt and the fruitness make it a bit syrupy, though, as it warms - the IBUs need to be upped at this strength. And I wonder if it’s not a bit over-dry hopped. But at this price (Thanks, Moosehead!) I’d go again. Better than anything even vaguely macro has a right to be.

12 oz.

Pours a clear amber color, off-white head is fine and retains well.

Smells of buttered biscuit malt and fresh piney hops. Hint of maple.

Tastes of buttered toast, caramel, a hint of roast, and piney hops with a tinge of citrus.

Feel is medium to full with a tingly carbonation on the tongue.

A very nice IPA with some good body and a slightly richer flavor than most of the IPAs I've had. Pretty tasty and worth a try.

Appearance - Pours a dark amber with a finger of bubbly white head.

Smell - citrus and earthy hops, caramel malts, tropical fruits (mango).

Taste - citrus and earthy hops and tropical fruits followed by a pleasant sweetness from the caramel malts.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes with a lingering bitterness from the citrus and earthy hops.

Overall - An American IPA that has all the elements in place. I was hoping for more of the bitterness from the hops to come through in the taste as opposed to tasting them in the finish. The caramalts provide a pleasant balance to this brew. Just some minor tweaks with this one will make this stand out with all the great American IPA's out there.

Pours a deep copper amber with a medium off white head. Starts with a nice aroma of pine citrus hops, caramel malt, slowly progresses to more of a citrus grapefruit fruity aroma as it warms up. Taste is sweet caramel malt, citrus pine hops with grapefruit notes. Palate is a medium body with moderate carbonation. The finish is caramel malt with moderate citrus grapefruit hops and a mils nutty flavor on the end. A nice good drinking brew.
