Stopped in here while walking back to Back Bay from Somerville on a recent visit.
Atmosphere is substantially different from what the outside facade would have you believe. I almost thought they were closed and went on my way, but after walking in I was pleasantly surprised. A good-sized horseshoe bar sits immediately to the left with tables in a large area to the right. Everything looks well worn but without looking run-down. Overall it was a very laid-back vibe that just was without having to try.
Quality was good. Everything was served in proper glassware, at the appropriate temperature and with a good amount of head.
Service was very good, my glass was bordering on empty a few times and it was hastily refilled. I didn't have any specific questions regarding beer but I overheard the bartender and he knew what he was saying.
Selection is also very good. Probably the most "exotic" list of any place I visited while in the Boston area, if only because of the rarer imports and somewhat abnormal style selections.
Food was good, I just had a bowl of the corn chowder and while on the expensive side it was filling and well thought out.
Value is OK - as I mentioned above the food was expensive and the beer seemed a bit more than other places around town, but not by a substantial margin.
Overall this is the place I would be most likely to frequent in the area - a very well thought out and eclectic draught menu and a great food menu that has some off-the-wall selections. Well worth a stop if you're in the area.
