Served in a Nonic glass on 09/20/10 at the White Marsh Location

Appearance: Clear dark red/amber beer (coppery) with a thin light tan head across the top. The foam died down pretty quickly though - no lacing.

Smell: Rather muted - some malt and hints of caramel/roasted malts, but not very strong at all.

Taste: Starts of malty, but then quickly moves into a English bitter flavor with an unusual finish. Reminds me a bit of a ESB at times. The hops and bitter finish are well balanced.

Mouthfeel: Good carbonation, but the beer is a bit on the watery side. Okay.

Drinkability: Went very well with a meal (stout marinated steak sliders with sweet potato fries) and I could have had another, but I've had better amber beers. Above average but I'm not wowed by it.

Delivered from the hand pump, a clear and surprisingly reddish body rests beneath a short head of frothy white foam that eventually subsides but holds a wide collar and maintains a lacy surface covering throughout most of the pint. Rings and splotches of lace are left throughout the glass; and the nose delivers an enticing combination of butterscotch and fruit. Its medium body is accentuated by its soft, natural carbonation; and it's lightly creamy in the mouth. Buttery diacetyl is clear in the flavor but doesn't overide its caramelish malt and mildly floral and leafy hops. It's backed by a solid bitterness, and finishes dry with some residual, lingering buttery malt, floral/leafy hops, and a touch of yeasty fruitiness. A very well done and authentic English-style ale that's quite drinkable. An excellent session beer when cask-conditioned.

On tap @ Red Brick Station on 5/9/09. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a brilliant clear amber with a thin covering of soft off-white colored head. Retention is decent, with foamy lacing left back that slowly slides down the sides of the glass. The aroma has some toasty sweetness up front, along with some lightly floral and spicy hop character that rounds out the back. The roasted malts in this really makes it stand out.

The taste starts with a nice moderate hop bite up front that brings a good amount of spice and bitterness to the mix. Well balanced by some sweet toffee character and a flush of roasted malts that pull up the back. The mouthfeel is lighter-medium bodied with a sharper carbonation up front that then gets creamier towards the back of the swallow. This overall has a solid crispness and drinkibility to it.

Not bad at all. A nice roasty taste, solid hop profile, and better than average drinkibility gave this an edge over a lot of the run-of-mill Amber Ales that I often see at some brewpubs. This took me a bit by surprise.

A: pours a clear copper into a nonic pint glass with a finger of large bubbles and viscous looking head that thins quickly to a thin skim.

S: there is a lot of malt in this beer, that is obvious. A ton of caramel, sweet malt, almost a butterscotch note, and a bite of darker bitter citrus.

T: a ton of sweet malt flavors meld together in the mouth and make a good sweet beer, but with little hop balance a few of these could possibly become cloying on the palate.

MF: a lighter body and a smooth effervescence (surprising considering the head retention) complement the beer well; as it saves it from being a below average beer to an ok beer.

O: with the many other beers they offer here I couldn't see my self ordering this on a regular basis, but there are a couple of people I would love to recommend this brew to, and would love it.

This is a pint glass from Red Brick Brewing in White Marsh, MD. The ale is served cold.

Appearance: The beer has a dark amber color, still see-through, but pretty dark. There is a nice head that lasts for the first 1/2 of the beer.

Smell: The ale has a pleasant, sweet malt aroma that offers hints of caramel. The hop body is light in the nose.

Taste: The malt and hop characters are well balanced here. The malts provide a caramelly sweetness that matches nicely with a firm dosing of English hops (I say that because they do not add a citrusy component).

Mouthfeel: The ale sits well on the palate and is good for long Sunday afternoons.

Drinkability: Another winner, close to a session classification for the amber ale style.

Dark amber color, decent head. Hint of malt in the nose, with a somewhat surprisingly subdued malt flavor that is a bit overbalanced by a spicy (though less than flavorful) hops bite. A strange metallic flavor in the mix that rendered the glass less enjoyable than I had expected. A signature beer from RBS, but definitely not something I'd do again.

Had this on tap in White Marsh. This must be the beer they took their name from, because it pours a nice brick red color, with a good finger and a half of head and lots of good lacing. Nose is mainly caramel and butterscotch with just a hint of hops coming through. Taste is a smooth caramel malt with a bit of citric fruit in the middle and a good floral hop finish leaving a slight bitter aftertaste. Body was a little on the thin side. This is another solid brew from Red Brick Station.

This was one of the General Sutter's Monthly Cask Night Offerings on Friday, 30 October 2009.

I felt like I was marrying this beer - something red, something blue, something borrowed, something old, something new. Onward!

Head was a solid finger of creamy off-tan softness floating above the beer. Color was a deep coppery-red with NE-quality clarity and ruby highlights. Nose was slightly malty, though not overt. I generally prefer my reds more hoppy, but I am not averse to a mildly malty red. However, I cannot brook the ones that drink like liquid candy. Ugh. Mouthfeel was full and creamy with a pleasant admixture of malt and hops on the tongue. Finish was slightly more bitter than sweet, but it struck a good balance throughout. Better than the pumpkin, but it still was not quite doing it for me.

Appearance: clear reddish dark amber in color with a 1" head. Some spotty lace develops.

Smell: caramel and some fruit sweetness are detectable.

Taste: caramel, dark red fruits, and a mellow bitterness make up a straight forward malty brew.

Mouthfeel: medium-heavy in body. Smooth from start to finish, with a touch of dryness late. Short aftertaste as the malt sweetness lingers a bit.

Drinkability: this is a nice session ale with plenty of malt and fruity sweetness. Worth giving this one a try.

A dark amber appearance, a pretty average head and noticed only a little lace around the glass

Smelled a good balance of malts with hops.

Again the smell was a good indicator of a good mixture of malt to hops, it does a bit of bitterness about it that its balancing act doesn't give away.

Their 2nd best usual(non-seasonal) offering at Red Brick, a good red ale, on par with a murphy's for instance.

Served as a reddish amber colored beer with moderate white puffy head. Smell is mainly roasty in character with a mild caramel background. Taste is an enjoyable mixture of malt and hops in a nice balance. Finishes more malty than day and leaves a pleasant mouthfeel. Nice to drink but nothing outstanding.

Kegged this is ny session beer, nice to try it in a cask for a change. Very smooth, but not watery. Light sweetness with a bit of nutty, buttery hops. No bad aftertaste, would definitely get again.

Will complete a full review when I get to a real computer!

Another beer on draft at a local beer bar and future brew pub supposedly.

Beer is red / brown, really hazy with an almost nitro looking head of small bubbles, lots of lacing, moderate carbonation.

Aroma is sweet with some breadiness, mild bitterness perhaps.

Tastes like butter, not in a good way, the beer is medium in body and really creamy with a diacetyl taste to the whole thing. It is moderately hopped, some bitterness on the back, if that creamy butter flavor wasn't there this would be a pretty good beer, otherwise it is a total pass.

Off tap this beer was a clear garnet color with a slightly khaki-colored head. The retention was not bad and the lacing thin. The aroma was of caramel, sweet malt, some bready malt and a touch of hops. The flavors were similar, though well balanced and easy enough to drink it leaned more towards the malty spectrum. Semi-sweet, with some lightly toasted malt, a good amount of caramel malt and a clean finish. The light body and low carbonation made it very easy to drink and it would be a great session beer. $1 beers on Tuesdays? This is the way to go.
