Poured nearly jet black except for a some dark brown when held to the light,a 1/2 finger deep tan colored head atop.Dark roast and dark fruit dominate the aromas, the dark fruit really sticks out here.Roasty and pretty dry on the palate, the dark fruit is there but plays a limited role,a true American stout with it's big earthy dryer tones.Another killer beer from Fire Mountain,I hope we see more of their line here in NC.

Poured black, surprise, surprise. Brown head, 1/3". Aroma was of roast and not much else, a little bit of a dark fruit edge to it.
Taste, pretty simplistic, oily dark fruit cum stout. A hint of coffee from the malt, two more hints hitting those overripe and bitter prune and raisin notes. Obvious roasting, the alcohol seemed to prominent relative to the abv for me.
I'm not really sure what the steam aspect of this beer is. Perhaps the yeast is steam ale hybrid like and that's why I'm getting the dark fruity notes? I dunno. Anyways, bomber format, would not bang again.

Undated 22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.
Prying cap releases a blast of compressed air but the beer remains well-behaved (no over-flow). The pour, however, is very foamy and even a gentle pour leaves mostly foam in the glass.
Aroma: some clear resemblance to an infected beer (hence, the foamy pour?)
Flavor: mild and well balanced, with an unfortunate hint of infection. Trace of coffee in the finish and weak aftertaste.
O: probably infected but nonetheless seems unlikely to be worth re-visiting.

Got this beer in Portland in 2012. Kept in wine fridge, then regular fridge yesterday.
Probably served too cold at first...
Black. Black pour. Big dark tan head, rocky and thick. Yes! Was in the mood for something *nasty* and this seems to be it.
Aroma is a bit weak at first, but as it warmed it opened up. Roasted malt, chocolate, espresso, some vanilla, bits of wood and char in the back. Hints of pine and citrus
This big bad beer is easy to drink. Lightweight feeling with a nice robust flavor. A subtle hop presence give the beer a great finish; lingering is the coffee and chocolate, a bit of pine wood and roasted malt. Throughout this beer screams dark without pounding me over the head demanding attention.
Great fall beer--wish I had another for winter

I live in one of those states that has long had very backwards laws regarding beer (Alabama). In recent years, some changes have occurred. One change is the bottle size allowed to be sold. I went to a small beer/wine retail shop and was pleased to see 1.375 pint bottles. Then I had to choose. I ended up picking a Fire Mountain Brew House Steam Fired Stout. Nice and dark and almost mocha flavored. I was impressed by the prolific head on this beer. I love a Guinness, but this runs a close second.

Poured nearly opaque black with a crazy tall tan head - might have been something with my bottle, but the first glass I poured had a head that wouldn't dissipate at all. Smell is great - powdery cocoa, malt, dough, and something else (a distinct doughy, yeasty scent that reminds me of something that I just can't recall). Taste is more chocolate, fresh dough and a hint of alcohol. Solid medium to medium/heavy mouthfeel that fits the style and flavor without being too syrupy.
Very interesting and very good, though I'm wondering based on other reviews if my bottle had something a little "off" about it - such a strong doughy character that I think others would have mentioned.
Would like to try this again for comparison, but even if this is what the beer is supposed to be, it's a solid and delicious beer.

One finger of tan head. Pitch black body.
The smell is a faint roasted malt and chocolate.
The taste is good and interesting. Roasted malt, bread, chalk, chocolate and powder.
Low carbonation and medium to thicker body.
It is a good stout with a little different taste, which is good.
