Bubbly deep nut brown with thin tan head and poor retention. Yeasty sweet aroma and alcohol. Smoky sweet tobacco with light bread sweetness and a chocolate finish. High carbonation and thin mouthfeel.

Flavors meld quickly and become considerably muddy. Slightly better after warming up a bit but a bit of a burn in the nose. It kills me because I’ve really liked other offerings from Odin but this is mediocre at best.

Purchased at the COOP last night.. Poured into my goblet tonight.. deeep amber/walnut brew.. nice clarity and a decent dark tan head that doesn't really leave any lacing or retention.

Nose is mainly dark malts and coffee.. not getting much in the way of a BSDA... I guess some minor clovey notes .. but NOTHING honestly Belgian.

Dark malt and a bit of tobacco.. cocoa.. soy.. Nothing... NOTHING Belgian.. Lighter body for a bigger ABV brew.. but nothing comes out in the supposed yeasty elements...

I could see this as a Belgian Stout IF a Belgian yeast was allowed to do it's damage.. but this is a pretty poor attempt at anything with a "Belgian" tag.

Funny.. The body/carbonation are about right for a BSDA.. but otherwise this is a big ole watery over carbonated porter...

Christ... I feel bad for this review... Honestly.

Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a medium red amber with a half finger very light tan head that dissipates slowly into a thin film with light lacing. Aroma of grapes, plums, sweet malt; spicy. Flavor is dark fruit, especially figs, molasses, roasted malt and lighter unidentifiable fruit. Finishes with roasted malt, chocolate and hop bitterness. Flavors are all over the place. An interesting dark ale, but hard to categorize.

Thought this might be something akin to Gulden Draak stylistically. There are some similarities, but plenty of differences, too. Its ruddy brown colour is definitely the same. It's a big, high alcohol beer and there are the requisite dark fruit notes in the nose. Taste-wise it's definitely different, probably due to the use of a different yeast strain. You get a lot of sweet malt notes--molasses, brown sugar, caramel--without anything to balance it out. There are some dark fruit notes on the palate, but the malt predominates.

A- chestnut brown with ruby shine. Fingerlength head that melts quickly into the beer.

S- sweetness a little roasted nut and alcohol

t- big roasted barley flavor that seems out of style. Beer more resembles a brown nut ale than a belgium dark. I would rank it higher if it was. alcohol aftertaste

Overall: It tricked me. I was expecting fruity belgium goodness and got a very english style brown ale with american abv

I've recently came to really enjoy this style so I've been trying a lot of Belgian dark ale's lately. The flavor of this one is slightly better than average but I think it's very much lacking in mouth feel. It has a nice roasted malt flavor mixed with burnt coffee and some hoppy bitterness. I wish it had more complexity but it is above average in my opinion. The malts also come through in the aroma which is a lot like a smoked porter. The light crispness of a Belgian ale really comes through in the end. The higher ABV is obvious but this beer is still very drinkable and light for a dark, winter ale.

This is my first Odin beer, I had not read any reviews prior to purchasing, drinking, or writing notes on the beer. It was affirming for me to see my thoughts line up pretty well with others, though I'm not as critical of the beer as some.

Nose: Sweet dark fruits - dark cherry and plum. Some alcohol pricking, caramel, light toastiness.

Taste: Big fig presence. Plum and a little bit of red grape. Quite a bit of alcohol warming towards the end - hits like 11% ABV except with an unusually light body. No sign of those Belgian yeasts I was expecting - I don't think they are necessary to be honest, but you kind of expect to find them when the bottle says "Belgian-style". I suppose that's a bit of an assumption on my part, because the dark fruit flavours are 'Belgian style' in their own right.
