I really don't get why they call this a Irish Ale. The beer is much more Scottish in style. Color was dark red, good carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavor was super strong caramel malt with perhaps even a hint of smokiness. Beer was too heavy to be a Irish Ale.

Sampled on tap at Sleepy Dog; March 2011
The beer arrives with a dark, concentrated red color and is topped by a light tan colored head. Aromas of sweet fruit, crystal malt, some spicy peppery malt notes, washed out raisins and sweet caramelized tea are all noticeable.

The flavor is sweet, but this is more due to no discernible hop character than the beer being overly sweet. Flavors of raisin and cherry round out the fruit flavors and there is a lingering toasted grain character, and touches of sweet tea. The lingering finish almost has some hints of roast character to it. And, I take it back, there is a touch of hop character here as there is just a barely perceptible hint of slight astringency and bitterness in the finish. You really have to stop drinking to notice the suggestion of hop character though.

The sweetness is too bright and simple, this really needs a richness to the malt character to be good. This is actually one of the better beers that I have had hear though as there isn’t really any off flavors to this beer.

Enjoyed this beer on tap at in downtown Tucson out a standard pint glass.

A: Pours an amber hue with a thick white head that ends with a solid lace.

S: Malty aroma with a faint hop background.

T: Smooth malty flavor – not a huge taste palate here.

M: Medium carbonation and medium body.

O: Decent Red ale – worthy of a try.

Brought home a growler and it sat in my beer fridge for a day and a alf, then split it into pint glasses and drank w a buddy.

A - Slightly cloudy brownish-red body, a little watery ring of foam tries to hang on down the glass but doesnt do much.

S - Nutty sweet malt, a little caramel and just the slightest trace of smoke.

T - Very malty, high in the sweet range. Theres some clover and a bit of smoky nuttiness, like roasted pecans or cashews.

M - A little watery, unremarkable, but it is easy drinking because of it and it leaves a smooth finish. Feels more like a 5.0ABV beer to me, so kudos for that.

O - Actually a pretty good offering I think, it'd pair up good with the food they've got at the east valley location and I'll probably do that next time...
