Sampled on tap at Sleepy Dog; March 2011
This beer arrives with a touch of haze in its lighter gold body that sits underneath a pale head. A big, buttery, diacetyl note in the aroma is backed by a notes of dishwater and perhaps a hint of grassy grain. After searching for some beery notes for a while I get a hint of some clove and bubblegum like aromatics.

The flavor has a creamy texture / slickness to it with flavors of sweet corn and a slight tinny / metallic note in the finish. Clove flavors linger on the tongue for a bit and there is a soap like flavor to this as well. My first sip also has lots of buttery diacetyl in the middle that lingers through to the finish. The clove does take over eventually though. Lots of diacetyl in this beer means that it boosts the slickness and body of this brew. No real wheat or grain flavors are noticeable underneath the dominant flavors.

Not my favorite style of beer, but I enjoyed this. Light cloudy with a nice white head with some lacing. Nice floral smell reminiscent of a Belgian beer. Nice smooth taste, and I can really taste the banana and some citrus. A little bitterness on the back end, but I am enjoying the strong hints of banana. More compley than a straight up Hefe like the Widmer. (360 characters)

I poured this from a 22oz bottle into a globe glass, not the proper Hefe glass but it works. The head is bone white with tiny champagne like bubbles. Right away the aroma carries a sweet bready yeast smell to your nose.

The immediate taste is a bit sour/tart citrus on the tongue and the mouth feel is a little watery. But then the sweet bananas and clove flavors customary for this style of wheat beer carry through. The finish is a nice mixture of sweet from the bready, banana, and clove flavors and the slight tartness from the beginning leaving a nice balanced taste.

This beer is very refreshing and leaves your taste buds desiring more and more, it may actually be a little too easy to down a couple glasses of this. It is fairly low in abv though, so it is not too dangerous to slam a few! (799 characters)

4.2% ABV per the label.

Pours a hazy golden-yellow with a foamy bone head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, caramel, banana, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, caramel, banana, and slight spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is drinkable, but pretty forgettable for an American example of the style.

Sleepy Dog Hefeweisen: On tap at a resort in Phoenix, served with a orange. Straw color and a thin head produced a faint aroma but was masked by the accompanying orange slice. Standard wheat beer in flavor and texture. Good local rendition of a style I greatly enjoy. Probably better without the orange slice attached. (318 characters)
