Light amber beer with nice off white head and really good lacing. Nice amber smell, smooth going in, and a decent hop kick for a light amber beer. Has a lasting bitterness for an american pale ale, but very flavorful to drink. Tastes a little stronger than it actually is, but a flavorful drink.

Sampled on tap at Sleepy Dog; March 2011
The beer arrives with a pale, wispy head that sits on top of a dark-copper / amber hued beer. The nose smells of crystal malt and has a touch of citrus hop dusting to the aroma, though it smells more of crystal malt than anything.
There is lots more hop bite to the flavor than I was expecting, based on the nose at least. It is not aggressively hoppy, but there is a fair amount of bitterness and bite to the flavor. Caramel mlat notes and toasted grain flavors do play a significant role here though and there is a lingering sweet tea like flavor that is often found in beers that have a fair amount of crystal malt in them. There is more of a focus on crystal malt than anything else in this beer, but there is at least a noticeable bitterness to it. The body is not really watery, which is certainly a plus and it has a medium’ish character to this otherwise lighter beer.
A bit too focused on crystal malt for my tastes as I prefer more of a bright, clean hop focus in a Pale Ale; it reminds me of a typical mid 90s interpretation of a Pale Ale.
