Very impressive store for it's location, Jersey City although on the rise isn't exactly a mecca for craft beer. Large amounts of bottles in 12 oz, 22 oz and various craft six packs both cold and warm. Prices are right in line with any other large discount Super Savers or Buy Rite. Large amounts of both domestic, Belgian, and various harder to locate UK/Scottish brands. Best part is that if you buy 12 22 oz or above bottles you can get 10% off which is quite unheard of for beer, but quite excellent because who amongst us hasn't been able to finish off a case of bombers in a long weekend.

It would be great if this store were good. Unfortunately, it suffers from two major problems:

* There's LOTS of old beer, stored warm. Lots of the stock is over 6 months old, some even older. If you care about freshness, this significantly limits your selection. For example, don't bother heading here to buy any Sierra Nevada unless you need a case of Celebration to go with your 4th of July BBQ.

* Lots of the beer is missing prices. And given that their prices aren't that great to begin with (partly NJ's fault, partly this store's), it's easy to get sticker shock at the register.

These guys have a pretty dependable supply of Carton, which is nice.

Be prepared to spend at 45 minutes to an hour at this Buy Rite walking up and down the aisles viewing the stock in this place. Most craft beers available on the East Coast can be found here and the stock is plentiful. Staff is friendly and the two individuals I spoke with were knowledgeable. Prices are moderately reasonable, some craft sixes/cases are actually on sale.
Growler fills are not available at this location, would like to see this change in the near future.

Atmosphere: Big warehouse style place. Huge. Tons of windows with craft/imports, then a huge warehouse full of more beer. One of the bigger stores I've seen.

Quality: Tons and tons and tons of beer. Bombers for probably upwards of 200 feet. Above average American craft selection and a really great Belgian selection too.

Service: Typical for a big chain, cordial employees...didn't really ask for help though.

Selection: Plenty. If it's distributed to NJ, you'll see it here. Saw a stack of 6 cases of FBS on the floor tonight and I'm sure they have more. Plus they're one of few North NJ stores that have Carton Boat cans in stock. Huge plus. No growler fills like other Buy Rites, but that's a pass as most stores don't.

Food: Didn't see any, but didn't look hard either.

Value was great. Some of the better prices you'll see. Not a huge markup on really anything. 4 packs of Carton boat were $10. That's awesome.

Vibe: This place is like a good-sized supermarket/warehouse entirely devoted to wine, liquor and beer. While the beer selection only constitutes less than a quarter of the shelf space, it's very large when compared to other stores given the sheer size of this store. The place itself is very well lit and has spacious aisles, which are nice if you are pushing around a shopping cart. An off-street parking lot is located right in front of the store, which is conveniently located in Jersey City between the entrance and exit of the Holland Tunnel. You can bring the carts right out to your car and load up the trunk.

Quality: All beers are stored in the interior of the store, far away from sunlight. One row of beer is stored cold in coolers. Given the amount of people shopping, it appears that beers have a high turnover rate.

Service: I observed some employees circulating through the store and answering questions from customers.

Selection: This store has an enormous selection of domestic and imported beers, many of which are available in single bottles in 12 ounce, 22 ounce and 750 mL sizes.

Value: I found the prices for beers to be quite reasonable compared to other stores in the area.

If you live in New York City, this place is still worth the trip. It's a trip on the PATH and a short walk, but the beer selection is better than anywhere in Manhattan.

We loved the huge variety of beers that were being offered. There were shelves of familiar breweries, but with their lesser known beers. There were single bottles for sale, as well as full six packs. Plus, many beers were stored at both room temperature and refrigerated.

This isn't a visit I can make frequently, but I'll cross the Hudson again for the selection.

Right by the Holland Tunnel. Probably has biggest selection of craft brews in Hudson County. You have a huge selection of craft beers, including some rarities. You can buy single bottle both warm and cold (cold bombers too) if you need some last minute beer purchases. Variety of craft beers change on a regular basis so you are always getting new options every time you go there. Staff is knowledgable about their beers and will be very helpful. Biggest downside is the lack of any variety of beer glasses to purchase for all the types of craft beers they sell. (They also sell liquor, wine and wine glasses too).

This is a very large store with a large selection of beer, wine, and liquor - it has an almost warehouse store (think Costco) like decor and vibe.

The service at the checkout counters is pretty friendly but not too knowledgeable about beers. The store does not seem to have a go to "beer guy" but that is fine with me since it lets me shop in peace without anyone bothering me - I like the thrill of the chase going through all the different beers rather than having someone try to guide me.

The store has a wide selection of beers which generally move pretty quickly, and the beer is not stored in direct sunlight - you can find some real gems here. There are literally hundreds of beers available in singles bottles or cans, as well as a wide selection of bombers and lots of beer available in six packs/cases. There is a pretty wide selection of domestic, domestic craft, as well as foreign beers. This store also gets a lot of the limited release beers that others store do not get because they do not have the sales volume.

Prices are reasonable, if not just a touch cheaper than some other shops in the area.

My first time at this emporium of all things booze located hard by the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City, but also surprisingly close to the Newport Mall, public transportation and the train to NYC. The closest place to Manhattan where you can get out-of-state beers like Lost Abbey!

Lucky for us, beer is located right by the main entrance to the store, and the first shelf greets you with Older Viscosity, all the Lost Abbey brews, Port Brewing and some cool rarities like an Imperial Stout from Old Schoolhouse Brewing, all the way out in a tiny town in Washington State. Also Cricket Hill from NJ.

I saw North Coast Old Stock 2009, which is pretty much gone from most places… also Voodoo and Fegley’s from PA. There are literally hundreds of different beers from all over the US and the world, including a dedicated entire shelf for Belgian brews and some British stuff like Wells Young Imperial Stout that I had never seen. A big cooler by the wall offers refrigerated bombers, six packs and singles (this I like too, the fact that I can buy a single bottle).

Prices are real good. That Old Stock was $20.99, and Lost Abbey Deliverance is $15.99. The only negative is all the dust on the bombers… what’s up with that? I guess the stock doesn’t move fast enough.

Service was non-existent, which is good and bad. Nice enough at the registers but that’s it. Didn’t see a beer guy. But when I returned a bottle of wine, they had no problem.

A great place to stock on gently-priced and rare beers!

I knew I was going to be in Jersey for the past few weeks so
I took to searching for stores in the Hoboken area. This appeared to be the best place around according to reviews however I recognized that about a half hour from Hoboken was a place called "Oak Tree" which had a higher review and reviewers seemed amazed by the place. I decided to go the half hour extra on my way down and visit Oak Tree while thinking if it didn't work out there I'd try Buy Rite. Let me first state that in CT we have major distribution issues and do not get any of the stuff I really like or stuff that's really noteworthy except Stone, Victory, DFH, Coronado and a few others. Needless to say a trip like this is huge for me. NJ gets some great stuff and it seemed like none of it was at Oak Tree. Selection was really limited and was mostly compiled of local stuff which could be cool but not for me. I left without anything in hand although I do commend them for their lost abbey stock. Once I got to Buy Rite I was blown away. Their singles selections was decent with questionable dating however. After that it was craft heaven. Half aisle four shelves high of bombers, an import bomber half aisle that mirrored the American bomber half aisle. A ton of stuff CT will never see. Jealous. To the right of those bombers back where the singles ended is one huge two sided aisle of cases of great brew that are for sale as either case or sixer with the prices marked right on top. Saw a lot of local stuff in this case aisle but also saw a lot of other good stuff like green flash, bear republic, GD, fort Collins, terrapin, troegs, founders, FW, and a bunch more. They had a ton of flower power which I think is way underrated even though its rated on the high side. They have a cooler section of bombers, sixers and singles that's quite large too with more selections than what's in the case aisle. Its a huge warehouse type place which is ok with me. There really isn't any service which is fine with me. The only thing that made me laugh was I asked an employee if it was ok if I went through the cases of GF west coast cuz the ones on top were dated October and he proceeded to tell me that almost 4 months old is still good for an ipa at which I laughed to myself. Anyways no place is completely perfect but this place comes close in selection in my book. Its a little tricky to get to but well worth the trip. If you are a Connecticut head who likes to make outta state beer store runs make this one your next stop and bring a lot of loot. I'm trying to figure out a way to convince my wife that I need to go there once more before we go back to CT so I can grab that double trouble and imperial stout(founders) I didn't grab.

Large liquor place with several aisles and coolers of beer. Good for getting a complete selection available of the regulars, i.e. Yards beers in New Jersey. Some single bottles, but they are fairly gracious about others. Almost no service, the people do not know the beers. The cashiers cash you out and you do all the shlepping to the counter, the guy would not even pull the bottles out to scan from the box. Prices in line with other places. I liked the complete lines of places from Flying fish, etc. so I can finally get that IPA, etc.
Overrated place.

This a large liquor store conveniently located close to the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City. Parking is ample and the store is actually a huge warehouse. The selection is extremely good with beer classified by country of origins. There is also a huge amount of singles to buy as well as some six packs. Service is good if required though everything is on the shelves. Prices are good for most of the selection except for the imports (and the Bruery beers) but I am sure this is reflective of the price points in most liquor store across the country. Definitely a place that I would recommend if you ever pass by Jersey City.

Wow, really impressed by this place. It's a huge warehouse store with tons of macro beers by the six and case, lots of premium wine and booze, and about as good a selection of craft beer in singles, sixers, 12s, cases, and bombers as I've seen in NJ. Maybe not quite as specialized as Oak Tree but there was lots of stuff here I haven't seen elsewhere and much I haven't seen in NJ at all. Prices were also very good on pretty much everything.

Service was friendly and helpful. If you're anywhere nearby you definitely shouldn't miss this spot. I'd be shocked if even the most well-traveled BA couldn't find something new and surprising here.

I come here whenever I visit my parents, who live in JC. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes I'll get offered some help and sometimes I can wander for 10 minutes and not an employee.

As far as the quality, all the beers seem to have a high turnover rate. The dates on the products are recent and fresh. I've been able to find some pretty awesome stuff here, like the Ola Dubh 40 Year. Prices seem to be reasonable for JC and their coolers are always stocked.

I am confused on how they decide on what should be in the cooler or on the shelves. I'll see 10 varieties of Mikkeller Single Hop in the warm shelf, and brews that wouldn't be adversely affected by the warmth.

As far as selection, this place has the best selection I've ever seen in NJ. Hundreds of bottles line two whole shelves, and then a few dozen cooler doors full of 6-packs, bombers, and 750s. In between the cooler and the warm shelves are just more cases of beer on display.

Next time I'll go in and ask for the stuff that isn't on the shelf, and perhaps I'll be able to find some even more awesome finds.

I stumbled upon ad after ad for this place on public transport and finally went pretty close to its opening. I have to say, I am immensely impressed in the depth of their selection and the great conversations you can have about beer with the staff. On occasion you'll get an employee who doesn't know much about things not wine or liquor, but most nights you can find their beer expert trolling the aisle dying to chat about his newest shipment or great finds you may have overlooked. My biggest complaint is that they focus much of their selection on imports, but there's still a very solid craft presence. I would love to see some more rare crafts and some store ratings and community involvement/recommendation element to the place. But all in all this is my go-to store for selection and value.

After shopping regularly at this store for the past month or so, ever since I moved to JC, I think I have a pretty good idea of the ups and downs. The selection is pretty good when it comes to domestics but make sure you ask as they keep many of the limited releases off the shelves. Some imports are well represented with nearly full lines from Wells, Fullers, Traquair, Spaten, Ayinger, Chimay, Mikkeller etc. but the Belgians were strangely lacking many of the great lambic brewers i.e. 3F, Cantillon, Oud Biersell, etc. I asked about the Cantillons and they said they had records of 2 or 3 mixed cases in their inventory but 'had no idea where it all went.' Someone has been having a good time, obviously. And yes, there are still few to no prices on the shelves or bottles.

Heard about this place from a few people and finally got a chance to make a trip.
So, size- this place is a warehouse. It sells wine, liquor and beer with a pretty fair distribution of each. That being said, there's a whole lot of beer. Half of the massive selection is macrobrew in bulk but the OTHER half! I'd say there's about 100 feet across of shelves of warm bottles, and about another 50 feet of coolers.
It seems they've had some problems with organizing beers in the past but things were in pretty good order when I was there.
Breweries range from classics like Sierra Nevada, Stone, Anchor to the newer wave cutting edge stuff like Brewdog and Mikkeller. All kinds of stuff in between with domestic and foreign breweries I've never encountered before. I picked up a Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Wild, the Brewdog/Stone collaboration Bashah, Ithaca's Flower Power, New Holland's The Poet and Mad Hatter along with a couple odds and ends. Lots and lots of singles to choose from. The singles are marked up a little bit but that seems fair if one just wants to taste things here and there. Six pack pricing was pretty standard for the region.
The one guy working the beer section at the time was kinda new to the place but really enthused about beer and happy to talk about what they have.
Next time I go, I go with a car and some savings.

I'm not sure if it's a recent development but I went for the first time yesterday and it's really frustrating to shop in this store as it seemed more than half their stock has no price on it. This goes for single bottles, bombers, cold sixes and cases. When we brought this up to a guy who asked if we needed help he said they are constantly changing prices but can never figure out where why they keep dissapearing. I'm thinking the more realistic answer is that with all the inventory they have, it's hard to keep it all organized. It also seems that they have a basic plan of what goes where broken down by country but then there is random stuff just thrown in the middle of it. I saw some fall/winter seasonal stuff mixed in the shelves that shouldn't be there in May. Spied an open box of Sierra Nevada 30th stout near the very back of the beer aisle that (surprise, surprise) had no price on it. When I asked the same guy from before how much it was, I got an answer that started with " I think it's something like.." which was nowhere near accurate to what it rang up as.

That aside, I think their import selection is better than their domestic. There was several breweries for domestic craft that were very under-represented when they have much more in their portfolios. Founders & Rogue were two that came to mind. They had one selection from Terrapin when I saw four in a much smaller store recently. Nice selection of Belgian stuff and some harder to get British ales.

It's a 20+ minute drive for me to get here and with some better organized stores closer to me, I don't see this as being a regular stop. Those who live closer will probably like it better. Just remember, if you've never gone before be ready to ask "How much is this?" a lot.

I had always hoped that a beer store like this would pop up in my area. I no longer have to take trips to Oak Tree or travel long distances to find amazing beers.

First off, the beers are very well organized and things are very easy to find. The singles are abundant and there are plenty of rotating bottles. Tons of beer in the coolers which is a change from most stores keeping beers on the shelves. It seemed that beers were separated by region/country/style- easy to find stuff. Lots of hard to find beers.

I wasn't looking for anything in particular so the service was not a big deal to me. The person who I did speak with was very nice and appeared to be knowledgable.

Prices were fair.

All in all- this place is AMAZING. I have been making weekly trips over just to see what they will get in next.

I love this place, now let's see them get some glassware!

Spoke with Beer Manager Joe M, who was extremely knowledgeable and pointed me to some very good Belgians. He spent a lot of time talking with me and based on his plans, this place is only going to get better. He wants to offer the best beer selection in the country, and he's well on his way for having only been open a few months. Highly recommended.

I can see this store only getting better. Clean, organized and had every beer that NJ can get.
Prices were pretty good too, compared to NY and PA. I just wish they could get in RR, FFF etc, but its not their fault, no one in NJ can (as of this review).
In Summary, the beer section of this store is dedicated to good craft beer and imports. Worth a visit.

Huge wharehouse space filled with beer, wine, and spirits. The first thing you see when walking in are four shelving units filled with singles for sale. I would say there are 1000+ varieties of beer here. Around the corner is a cooler with many of the same plus some different varieties cold. Definitly the largest selection of beers in North Jersey.

I was turned onto this place by a beer rep who told me that when they had opened they bought every single variety of beer available from every distributor in Jersey. I don't think this is true since there are beers I've seen elsewhere in Jersey but not here. Give them time though. Domestic selection is thorough, imports are a little thin compared to Oak Tree.

Service is iffy, but I will give them another shot later. The four times I had been in there they had yet to hire a beer manager. One of those time I had recieved good informed help. One time I had asked for a Utopia. The first person brought me to the coolor where they kep sixes o Sam Adams. The second person felt pretty sure she had heard of Sam Adams, and the store manager assured me it was a season product that comes out once a year so they should get it in soon.

Overall, really amazing selection, a little pricey, 99% of the time it will save me a 45-hour trip to the places I used to have to go to.

Everything you can get in Jersey, they've got it, from Stone to Founders to Smuttynose (I'm obviously partial to American craft beers).

As I approached the beer section, an employee immediately offered their services. This is something that doesn't happen too much anymore (unless it involves commission).
