750ml bottle into a teku. 9 years in the bottle.

Looks very good. Reddish brown body, clear when held up to the light. Small loose bubbly off white head shrinks to a broken ring, no lacing.

Sweet dark fruit aroma.

On tasting, the sweetness is initially fleeting, but pops up now and again. Sour and tart rules this drink. It's quite warming, and very drying.

Mouth closer to full than medium, finish tart, sour, and dry.

Overall, enjoyable drink. In my books, not as good as the 2014, but YMMV.

my bottle says vintage reserva 2013, i am assuming its the same was whats listed here, as the paper wrapping mentions foedre 149 as well, but i suppose it could be a different release, guessing just the wording has changed. a rare find indeed, close to 30 bucks for the bottle, but you get what you pay for, and this ranks among the best rodenbach beers i have had now, eight years old and holding on just fine, no real oxidation, bacterial over development, or other forms of fade or fatigue, nothing suggesting its past its prime, except for the large flakes of dark sediment in the bottom inch or two of the bottle, which is to be expected. other than that this has great clarity, a deep mahogany bronze tone, medium shine, some visible bubbles and a little pop when we pull the cork out, but very little head that hangs on at all, less thick than expected, some light coming in, but i always prefer a little head on my beer. the aroma is cool, still lactic and vinegar forward like all of their stuff, but to me less sharp and harsh on the belly, its more fruity, sweeter, fuller feeling, and balanced, even without any more bretty funk than any of them have, instead its mellow from all the wood, all the time, this seems super long aged and it pays off, so much less astringent than a lot of their beers are. i always realize i am not a flanders red lover as a base style when i have these, its just not my preferred sour of choice, but its hard to argue the overall quality here. deep raisin, red cherry, port wine, tobacco, toffee, and wet oak to this, great complexity, tons of dried fruit, smooth and long finishing, subtle root beer and vanilla too, the longer it sits the more i taste, and while i do share the bottle around, i also drink most of it myself and dont find it too sour for that at all, much to my surprise and delight. looks sexy with the paper and the cork packaging, seems mature, well refined, and high end at this point, and is definitely a beer of a specialist nature, a sipper, one to be appreciated with close friends and family. i will be on the lookout for more special vintages and single vessel rodenbach beers, looks like there are quite a few in the catalog!

Poured from a paper wrapped cork'n'cage bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip. Labeled 'Vintage Riserva 2013'.

L: Murky copper brown pour with thin white head. Falls fast... minimal lacing.

S: Tart and funky. Cherry juice, fruit, and vinegar.

T.F: Tart up front with oak and funk. Cherry juice, apple cider vinegar, and barrel character. Complex... a nice sweet/tart mix. Some vanilla... acidity, and even a little red wine flavor. Surprisingly smooth and almost creamy. Medium to light bodied. More fruit and tartness at the finish.

O: Absolutely outstanding. A great Belgian sweet/tart fix with loads of fruit and funk. Rodenbach is always good... and this is among their best.

Deep, rusty reddish brown, and cloudy with lots of carbonation. Topped with a half finger of light beige head.

Smells of sour funk, barnyard, dark toasted notes, balsamic, oak and sour berries.

The taste follows the nose, and comes through in a smooth, wonderful balance. Balance of sweet and sour notes.

Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a tart but creamy finish.

Had with my Bro in Stratford, ON, March 27th. Excellent, well balanced Flanders Red Ale.

$ 31.40 (including shipping)/750 mL cork and cage bottle ($ 1.24/oz) from Blackwell’s, San Francisco, CA.
Bottle dated 2020/07/16, stored at 42 degrees and served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Rodenbach flute. Finished at 53 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
Body – Hazy brown.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, aggressive pour), tan, fizzy, rapidly diminishing to a 0.5 mm ring fed by effervescence and a thin center island also fed by effervescence. The second pour produces a smaller, rockier head.
Lacing – None.
Pour – Brown with a slight red tint, clear.
Aroma – 4 – Tart cherry and oak. Unfortunately, it does fade.
Flavor – 4.75 – Begins lightly tart with some fruitiness and some oak. There is some mild lactic acid bite and just a scintilla of leather. There is just a ghost of yeastiness but the tartness thins this to barely noticeable. No malt, no diacetyl, no dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 - Light, watery, lively carbonation.
Impression and summation – 4.75 – Nothing special about the palate, it’s just as it should be. The haziness of the body is probably my fault – I wasn’t gentle enough when I looked for the BB date on the bottom. The aroma is excellent as it is with every Rodenbach product I’ve consumed. The flavor is the real star that brings us to any Rodenbach product. The fruitiness balanced with the oakiness is sumptuous and the lactic/leather combo is also well balanced. Overall, an excellent product.

A: Poured into a Duvel tulip t oa deep mahogany topped by a finger of dense light tan head that fades quickly to a collar around the edge of the glass with minimal lacing
S: Smells of light sourness and sweet oak with some nice juicy red berry and sour cherry notes with hints of vanilla
T: Taste is that nice sourness and some nice juicy sour cherry notes with that pleasant oak sweetness. Slight vanilla at times as well. Classic rodenbach flavor profile but just amped up to another level. Swallow is more sour cherry, oak and vanilla with hints of spice on the finish.
M: This beer is about a medium in body with a slightly slick mouthfeel. Carbonation is soft and effervescent and the beer has a drying finish from the acidity.
O: Overall this is an outstanding beer and a great representative of the style. These vintage releases from Rodenbach are always top notch and this one is no exception.

Pours a brick red-brown with almost no head and no lace. Nose is a similar acidic fruitiness to Grand Cru, maybe a bit more cherry and resin qualities. Taste is similar, but a bit of an increase in barrel influence and depth. Overall a very enjoyable beer that takes it up a notch from the Grand Cru.
