A: Rusty brown colour with 2 fingers of creamy beige head, lots of fine bubbled carbonation visible even though its semi-opaque.

S: Vinegar, its like a balsamic meets malt vinegar with an aromatic floral quality like blossoming poppies. The oak notes come in the background and are subtle and subdued at first.

T: An amazing balance of sweet and sour. Petrus’ version is quite sweet, La Folie and Monk’s versions quite sour, but this is an amazing balance for a Belgian sour beer. Foamy and light qualities make it amazingly drinkable. The oak is definitely there and does not take over. Its as a background accent making this beer taste amazing.

M: Light and foamy feel, with a light acidic body and highly foamy carbonation giving it a powdery and acidic feel simultaneously.

O: Excellent. This was only brewed once and had a high price tag accordingly, but I sure hope to find some similar brews again in the future.

Drank as my 300th beer. Reviewed in comparison with Rodenbach Grand Cru.

A - Dingier brown. Muddy. Head is very similar; a dirty cream colour. Whirlwind of upward-spiralling bubbles.

S - Richer, nuttier aromas. Almond as well as the fruitiness of raspberries and tartness of cherries that you'd expect. Oak.

T - Tarter and richer than the Grand Cru. Less sweetness and fruitiness leaves this feeling more aggressively sour. Red wine vinegar. Raisins.

M - A little bit of mouth pucker. Smooth, creamy and rich.

O - Extra abv. is easily accomodated. I prefer the sweetness which mellows, softens and thereby rounds out the Grand Cru. Tartness moves beyond vinous to being genuinely sour. Prefer the ruby accents of Grand Cru aswell. Worth trying if you're looking for a sourer version of Grand Cru, but personally I don't think it's worth the extra cost.

Pours out a nice dark amber with a decent head which dissipates quite quickly. Little outer rim of head sticks around for the ride with a bit of lacing. Smell is great. That of sweet wine, fermenting fruit, and wood. Taste is great as well. Perfect balance of sweetness and sour. Sour cherries, raisins, and currants. Mouth feel is superb. Not over sour to make your mouth pucker, but just enough to tingle and tantalize the taste buds. Very good sour which was collecting dust at a local brew store. Glad I grabbed it!
