American Double / Imperial IPA |  8.40% ABV

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Double India Pale Ale is bigger in hop character and alcohol than our Extra Pale Ale. It is sure to please even the most discerning hop-head! Also known as Imperial IPA, this intensely hoppy, yet very drinkable beer lets the malty characteristics take a step back and allows the hops to really shine. Brewed with almost two (2) pounds of hops per barrel and left unfiltered, Six Row Double IPA showcases the citrusy and piney characteristics of the Columbus, Centennial, and Chinook hops.

Pours a hazy golden hue which seems a bit cloudier than I would have imagined. Moderate carbonation and good head retention. Strong aroma of grapefruit like hops is very inviting. Assault of hops tickles the taste buds on the way down. Very smooth for the strength. I like the lingering hop burn.

Pour was a light copper with an orange hue. Light head and retention.

Light pine and sweet fruit. My only complaint was the scent needed more. It was nice, but a bit faint.

Very well balanced. Lightly sweet malt with a candy and citrus hop flavor. Very fruity. There was a hint of booze through out.

Moderate carbonation and full body. slight oily resin feel.

Good stuff, not over powering in any way. nice and balanced, a great sipper.

Golden orange body, slightly hazy, moderate lacing.

Citrus hop smell, followed by pine. There's a decent amount of malt to it.

Pine and earthy hops come through more in the taste and it finishes with a fusel spice burn. It's slightly boozy considering the 8% abv. Moderately bitter.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied, sticky, with carbonation on the lower side of moderate.

A decent DIPA with some minor flaws.

22oz. bottle split into snifters, thanks Justin for the assist.
Review from written notes.

It pours a hazy burnished orange tone, saturated coloration, with some slow rising carb trails in the center. A thin layer of foam stretches across the top, leaving spotty lace, and a swirling galaxy of cirrus clouds breaking on the surface.

Aroma is candied orange peel and caramel, some faint herbal eucalyptus in the background.

Malty caramel taste, light citrus and resiny bitterness. Some woodiness in the background as it warms. Full bodied and bitter with a dry aftertaste. Seems fairly mellow in character, like an amped up to 11 English IPA. For the price its a good deal though, just nothing too wild.

Pours out a cloudy yellow/amber with very little suds. Very nice lacing though.
Smell is spruce trees and grapefruit. Some malt and caramel sugar here but the pine and alcohol are at the forefront.
Taste is a little boozy and very bitter. Not a lot of pine here but the grapefruit rind is here in bunches. Some sugar and malt mix in after the initial bitterness wears off. Then you have that boozy back of the throat.
Mouthfeel is a little sticky but this one finishes well. You are ready for the next sip. And sip you must cause this one will sneak up on you.
Overall this is a good attempt at a big beer from a brand new company. Hope they have a lot of success and I will be trying their other offerings.

Served this 22 oz. bottle in a Tripel Karmeliet glass. No date listed. The body was a hazy apricot color and the head was off-white. Minimal lacing remained.

The smell was of satsuma oranges and wheat bread. Fruity but not pungent.

The taste was juicy citrus and a gentle bitterness that lingered. Sweet grapefruit. Lighter on the maltiness than I would have expected. Well hidden alcohol.

The mouthfeel was creamy with a medium to light density. Easy to drink.

Makes about a finger thick off white head, with decent retention. The body of this brew is copper in color with a mild haze. I'm surprised this brew isn't cloudy.

The aroma is balanced between the the arid and lemony hops and mild toffee sweetness.

Upfront the brew is grapefruit and pine, turns caramel sweet for a tick, then reverts back to the hops.

Feels lightly carbonated, coarse in the middle, and finishes thhe palate wet.

Overall I'm impressed with this beer. I was expecting a train wreck for some reason, but got what I'd say is a solid offering for the style.

22 oz bomber poured into a shaker.

A - Clear light to medium amber with a massive, speckled white head that lasts. Carbonation appears light.

S - Very big grapefruit aroma plus... something else. Blue grape? Plum?

T - Crisp and brisk for a big double IPA. Serious hop aroma and flavor with a bready, doughy background. Finish has a little effervescense left with a good, solid bitterness. Finish is medium dry.

M - Medium body, medium carbonation. Slick oiliness present in a very small amount. Good, but not great.

O - A great, STL based double IPA. Seems to have jumped on the grapefruit bandwagon, but with an added twist. Must try if in STL.

Poured from the bottle a bright orange color with a finger of white head. Minimal lacing noted.

Aroma of faint pineapple, ripe fruit and sweet caramel malts.

The taste had caramel malts upfront followed by piney and citrusy hops. Light bitterness to the finish.

Medium bodied and slick to the palate with a lighter carbonation.

A well-made DIPA but a bit shy on the hop scale IMO.
