12 oz bottle served in a snifter.

Pours and looks like a low carbonated pilsner.

Aroma: wheat with a hint of citrus.

Flavor: wheat, light hops, touch of citrus. Very good bitte/sweet balance.

Feel: light body with adequate carbonation.

O: a very nice and refreshing American style pale wheat than leans towards the light side. Enjoyed this more than expected.

12 ounce bottle poured into a wheat beer glass

A - pours up a crystal clear pale straw color with a neat white one finger head, some retention, and some lacing.

S - bananas and pears

T - Lemon and apple notes upfront with bananas, clove and a yeasty dry finish.

M - decently carbonated, no aftertaste

O - just another wheat beer.

This pours a cloudy golden body with a foamy ultra white, like marshmallow white head that starts out at 2 fingers.

The nose is yeasty with faint banana, pizza dough, sugar, and lemon honey notes.

The flavor is sweet, and grainy and wholesome like breakfast cereal covered in white sugar.

The mouthfeel is extremely smooth with little carbonation.

Overall, this is a perfect example of an American Wheat Ale. I've been drinking Jailhouse brews for a couple years now and for some reason never tried the Slammer Wheat; what a mistake.

Poured this out of a fresh growler. Not a ton of carbonation or head to this one.. Crystal golden color looks nice though I prefer my wheat beers to be hazy... Has a lot more flavor then most american wheat beers but that isn't saying much. Slightly sweet some very light hops, very clean light light banana. Very easy to drink could put this back on a hot summer day no problem. Better then most of the style just not my fav style.

One of the initial year-round offerings from Jailhouse. This one was purchased several months ago at Green's on Ponce and has been chilling in a refrigerator ever since, waiting for this review. The Slammer Wheat is brewed in the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. According to the label, it is "An American wheat beer perfect for the 'General Population,' Slammer Wheat is characterized by inviting citrus aromas and delicate malt flavors that finish clean and crisp."

Poured from a 22 oz. bomber to 2 12 oz. snifters. Served at 45º Fahrenheit. Shared with my Girlfriend.

(Appearance) Pours a thick frothy white head over a hazy pale amber body. Abundant small carbonation. Not bad. 3.5

(Smell) Wheat malt with a mild, yet pleasant sweetness, lemon, honey, and pears all plausible additives. Simple aroma, it's mild but enjoyable. 3.5

(Taste) Up front it's a dessert sweet wheat malt with a touch of honey for boosted sweetness. Very low bitterness despite a mild interesting tart lemony sourness on the finish that rounds it out somewhat. A bit too sweet to be ideally balanced but the flavors are well preserved, the subtleties are complimentary and the off-flavors are mild enough to not interfere with the medium bodied wheat flavors. More pleasing than not, it's one of Georgia's better wheat offerings. 4

(Mouthfeel) Slick but chewy and thick with a lesser carbonation crispness than desirable. A subtle froth on the tongue keeps this feeling like a heavier wheat beer than the average brew. Body is medium, heavy for a wheat. Alcohol presence is low. Not a bad pair, just a bit too shy on carbonation. 3

(Overall) A fuller-bodied wheat beer with some enjoyable flavors and a nice mild citrusy tone. A bit sweet for the general beer drinker's population but more enjoyable than not. 3.5

This was one of the rotating beers on draught at TAP in Midtown. It was served in a shaker pint. It was a hazy light straw, white cap and decent lacing.

The beer had a light aroma of grains and citrus.

Taste tracks the smell, it is sweet and has some grainy undertow with a bit pear, but some vegetable-earthy-spoiled taste emerges at the end of the sip. Could be an old beer or dirty tap line, but I would be shocked as TAP seems to be on top of things like that.

The mouth is decent, but can't overcome the overcooked vegi thing.

It’s To Damn Hot! Welcome to Atlanta!
This category is your summer beer. It is sitting in the park in +100F weather. It is Turner Field in the Summer. It is light, refreshing and great ice cold. The current winner is: Jailhouse’s Slammer Wheat

This beer comes from one of Atlanta’s newest brewers. Instantly, I thought of a wheat beer and mildly sweet and citrusy. The beer is an example of an American Wheat, sweet almost lemonadey (as opposed to a German Hefe which is dry). Nationally, this is the best version of an American Wheat I have had, which says a lot, it is a popular style here.

Alright, this has to be one of my favorite wheat beers around.

This beer has a typical wheat beer appearance to it, golden and cloudy.

The mouth feel is excellent.

Decent head retention when poured.

Overall a great gateway beer into the craft beer community.

A very nice wheat, a bit on the sweeter side, but with a nice, crisp snap to it. Pours a nice golden color with a somewhat thin head that fades to a swirl. Stark white in color. The nose is nicely grainy with some light banana and lemon notes and a bit of spice. The taste is quite well balanced between a creamy graininess and a dry herbal snap. Light in body, and a bit on the softer side but with enough crispness to keep it fairly refreshing. There are some very late stone fruit and apple notes that provide some nice depth. A well made and quite enjoyable summer quaffer.

Thanks to cpinto6 for this one.

Big growing erupting head fluffy few fingers light lacing, crystal clear golden water colored.

Nose tons of wheat, light lemon and citrus rind, hint of spices, hint of sweet malts.

Taste fluffy wheat, lackluster bland wheat flavors, light sticky sweet, light spices, hint lemon, light estery like bad flavor, sticky syrupy extract almost like flavors, light citrus. Finish is more of the slightly unpleasant syrupy flavor, super dry, lingering citrus.

Mouth is lighter bodied, tooons of carb.

Overall meh, not done very well, fake syrupy tasting, some light off flavors that I can't put a finger on and quite bland.

A: Pale golden straw color with frothy white head that dissipates quickly leaving a fair amount of lacing. 22 oz bomber poured into pint glass.
S: Wheat, grain, citrus with a bit of skunkiness.
T: First flavors to hit the palate are citrus and wheat. Lemon zest is present. Pretty watery though.
M: Light bodied and fairly thin. Moderately carbonated.
O: Somewhat disappointing in that it is rather thin and lacks any oomph. I will definitely try out some of Jailhouse's brews as they are just 40 minutes up the road from me.

A - A cloudy yellow with a ton of head and leaves thick lace all over the glass.

S - Sweet, malty aroma, with hints of citrus, bubblegum, and obviously, wheat

T - Wow, very tasty. Very well balanced. Starts sweet, and then hints of citrus and lemon. Fresh and crisp.

M - Well carbonated, medium bodied.

O - A very drinkable, summer wheat beer. Well balanced, and a low abv so you can drink alot of it. Very well done by Jailhouse!

Bottle purchased at a Whole Foods in Atlanta.

Pours a very murky, pale, orange-ish straw color with little head to speak of and heavy, soda-like carbonation that settles to a lighter fizz after a minute.

Bubblegum and banana are big on the nose, with a bit of sugary biscuit and spice, and a hint of something foul and vegetal lurking in the background. Maybe some bitter orange and lemon oil, but otherwise not much citrus.

The first sip tastes for all the world like an adjunct macro lager, starting off with overwhelming malty, corny biscuit. The aforementioned bubblegum, banana and very light citrus rise up in the middle to try to save the day but don't succeed in fully cutting through the fake macro flavors. The more interesting citrus and ester flavors finish with a crisp snap, but there lingers a vaguely cloying corn and sugar aftertaste. Made me grab for a mineral water to purge the memory.

Others seem to have had a better time with this one, but I found it undrinkable. One of the worst American craft brews I've sampled in awhile. Maybe I got a bad bottle?

Thanks for sharing this one, Bobby.

A: The beer pours a clear yellow color with a big white head.

S: Lemon, honey, and garbage hit the nose first. Super sweet and sugary with a lot of bread flavor and some sour wheat. It also smells like there's a bit of corn in the beer...

T: Sweet bread is the first flavor to hit the tongue and is followed by lemon candy, sugar, and lemon zest. There is a light fruitiness to the beer and some tart wheat notes as well.

M: The body and carbonation could both be described as "medium".

O: Not a very good beer. Should be interesting trying out some of their other offerings...

Comes out of the tap a pretty, hazy solar yellow with a decent white head. Wheaty, lemony aroma is slightly sweet and not strong but still appealing. Flavor is wheaty, yeasty, lemony and quite pleasing. Smooth, subtly tingly texture leaves a wheaty and citrus finish.

Poured into a New Belgium globe. This is my JHB beer and like the stout before it, take pride in yet another up and coming brewery in Georgia.

Upon pouring only half the bottle, I didn't notice haze or cloudiness. Bright head settled down to a thin, but consistent surface. A steady stream of bubbles works its way up from the bottom center of the glass, making a nice swirly on the surface. Great clean smell, suggests a brew with medium body and that it is! Clean taste, wheat grain with just enough hops to know they're there. Great balance, IMO. This is a easy drinking beer, one that I look forward to spending a good part of the summer with.

Huge thanks to Grant for hooking me up. 22oz bottle poured into my De Struise glass...The body is a murky dark honey gold, has a dullish hue that bothers me. The head is great, about four full fingers of bright white foam. A cap of about three fingers stays for while, totally full and thick lacing...The aroma is disappointing as there is tons of alcohol coming at me for a 5% beer. Cloves, wheat and honey come through nicely but the alcohol is my first and last impression. Some nice citrus notes come out to play as it warms... The taste is shockingly sweet, tons of sweet wheat come through with a hint of clove. Alcohol again is to strong, ...The feel is way to light, almost dead and limp, just doesn't hold up...I don't particularly like this but with such a light feel its really easy to drink.

Can't recommend this, but if at the bar I'd crush it towards the end of the night.

The third of the three 22oz bottles from this new brewery.

Pours a very hazy, bright yellow with a moderate fluffy white head that recedes fairly quikcly to a thin collar with little lacing.

Aroma is sweet with lots of bananas and bubble gum sweetness. There is also a healthy lemon zest presence, but this one almost smells like a hefe.

Taste is a bit more hoppy up front with lots of lemongrass and oranges but gives way quickly to the sweet wheat characteristics - fruity. Finish is a combination of the fruits, very slightly tart but also sweet.

The mouthfeel is effervescent and well carbonated with a medium body.

I'm impressed by this one and I think I may like this better than the other two, certainly more than the IPA. Well crafted wheat beer.

Ha. Some people think they know what an "american wheat" is. It's a wheat beer made in USA not made to imitate the belgian or german style, and is best when it is a beer just like the other american beers, only with a large amount of wheat in the grist. So well done Jailhouse for making an original wheat beer that is drinkable and unpretentious!

Appearance: Delicately hazed, pale straw-colored body with a smallish, fizzy, white head.

Smell: Aroma of lemon-scented hops, a hint of dried, pressed flowers and wheat malt with a side note of grains.

Taste: A simple start of malted wheat with a touch of raw, crisp grains. Medium-light sweetness. Citrus flavor akin to taking a lick of a sliced lemon. Light bitterness. Sweetish, lightly grainy, lemony finish with a final zip of carbonation.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium-plus carbonation.

Drinkability: A standard though sufficient wheat ale that could easily pair with a wide variety of foods due to its easy-going nature.

Been wanting to try some beers from the new GA brewery for a while - finally had an opportunity at Outlaw's in McDonough, GA. Thanks to Glen at the brewery for pointing me in the right direction.

Pours a slightly hazy dark straw color with a half-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of pilsner and pale malts mostly with hints of wheat twang and even lighter hints of light fruits.

Tastes similar to how it smells, although more light fruit flavors are present than the aromas intimate. Crisp pilsner malt flavors kick things off with mild amounts of wheat twang. Midway through the sip mild grassy flavors and hints of bananas enter into things and carry through to a crisp ending.

Mouthfeel is alright. It's got a nice thickness however the carbonation is a bit on the heavy side.

Drinkability is good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall this is an easy-drinking beer however it doesn't exactly fit the bill as an American Wheat.
