Reviewing this one to help it get a score.

Pours a light slightly milky yellow with a very short white head.

Nose is yeasty, a light, bright citric fruity character to the nose that is appealing and inviting. Layers in the nose of yeast, fruit, light malt and a hint of sour.

Mouthfeel is crisp, fresh and bright. Nice carbonation and really well balanced. Very drinkable. This is not the beer for you if you want a powerhouse. However, it is a very nice example of a Berliner Weisse with a twist. There is rye and prickly pear in this one and there are nice hints of each and a nice balance.

Nothing hits you over the head or stands out which makes this almost elegant in character. Finish is lightly tart and fruity. All in all I like this one. A great beer for the beginning of a tasting or nice with some lighter food profiles. I'll actually drink this one as long as I can find it.

A: Pours a clear light straw yelllow with a half-inch white head composed of big bubbles.

N: Grapes, melon, tropical fruits, wheat, peaches, and floral. Nice.

T: Wheaty grains with tropical fruit. Slightly tart. Not picking up the rye.

M: Light body and moderate carbonation. Slightly dry finish and faint tartness.

O: Clean and refreshing. Easy drinking.

Eagle Rock Unity

3.25% ABV per the bottle

A- pour produces a 1/2 finger fizzy white head receding quick
Leaving no head or lace. Beer is a very light colored peachish/ gold. 3

S- sweet grains, slightly tart, some rye, light fruitiness. Not great. 3

T- more tart here than the smell led on to be thankfully. The  tartness really helps this one because the lemony taste it adds is needed because the sweet grainy flavor is a little too much. I don't think it's the rye because I get a little of that bolder slightly spicey rye flavor also. The fruit is subdued and well done. 3.5

M- good mouthfeel, medium body and nice carbonation with the tart. 4

O- I liked this beer but didn't love it. Very good drinkability I could have several. Overall i would get it again, but there are also better much berliner weisse beers out there. 4

"Unity Prickly Pear Berliner Rye". 3.25% per the label on my bottle (not the currently stated 3.75%). 2012; some vague connection to LA Beer Week. 22 fl oz brown glass bottle with customized pressure cap served into a New Belgium stem-goblet in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are low given the brewery; every local L.A. brewed beer I've had really sucks.

Served straight from the refrigerator. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger white colour head of okay thickness, not much cream, and decent retention. Colour is a murky cloudy pale dull watery yellow. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. a horrible appearance. It looks incredibly bland and uninviting.

Sm: Luckily, it smells better. Pear, crystal malt, a lactic note, and pale wheat. A decent aroma, but there's little in the way of interest or specialty. Moderate in strength.

T: Assertive pear, a pale wheat foundation, more tart pear, crystal malt, and a citrusy lemon zest note. Surprisingly flavourful for the low ABV. It's tasty. That said, it's not really at all subtle. It's quite complex for the style, though. One of the tastier berliner weissbiers I've had. Balanced but narrow.

Mf: Assertive, sharp, tingly from the crystal malt, coarse, and wet. Suits the flavours nicely. I'd prefer it a bit more mellow, but it suits the style.

Dr: Quite drinkable, though not as much as you'd expect for the low ABV on account of the mouthfeel. Still, it's a nice little berliner weiss. I'd get it again. Would pair brilliantly with an acidic salad. A solid, dareisay sessionable, berliner weiss. One of the better ones I've had in the style.

On tap at Lucky Baldwins Trappiste in Pasadena, CA.

Pours a clear super light yellow with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, and some fruity aromas. Taste is much the same with a slightly sour and tart fruity finish. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and super easy to drink.
