The garagistes of Southern France, Southern California style.

You've always wanted to own a craft brewery. What do you do? If you're Jeremy Raub and his father, you chip in together, buy a tiny couple-barrel system, and...oh yeah, rent out a storage facility at the end of a dark alley in a decidedly ungentrified part of Eagle Rock.

The oddest part of all? It works. It works really well.

On nights when the taproom is pouring, there's a good mix of hipster and greybeard milling around the outside. No one will be holding a drink -- no beer outside the facility -- but most will be enjoying a cigarette or waiting in line at some of Southern California's finest food trucks.

After you navigate through the crowd, you make your way to the unmarked door and into the tasting room inside. Meant to hold 15, and usually holding 40, this small room with a few rickety tables and a window looking into the brewhouse contains some of the most convivial folks in the area. If you want one of those tables, get there early in the night. Otherwise, you'll have to be one of the folks who linger nearby, hovering like hawks, looking for the earliest sign you're ready to pack up and leave.

The beer is solid, if not remarkable. Middle of the road styles done very, very well. Textbook brewing. There are usually a few guest taps, as well.

All in all, a neat experience, and a regular haunt. Would that all breweries were both as fun to visit and contained as well-made beer. Salud.

I wouldn't know anything about this place other than I spent an hour in rush hour traffic to get there, it is in a super shitty area, with NO parking, and then they wouldn't let me come in with my 7yr old son!! They may have great beers, but I'll never know, and no way will I ever pay for their beer anywhere.

Very local brewery with what I would say some of the best beer in the metro LA area. Keep it up guys!

No good beers. Like a library inside.

Very small taproom. A little hard to find but nice when you do. Quite a few of their beers on tap with bottles available, and a small fridge with some others. Food trucks show up with some pretty good stuff. Had a good time there...

When a brewery opens 15 minutes early for you you start to wonder if you've found your true love. Unfortunately, this relationship won't quite work out, not because of anything Eagle Rock did, but because of the distance between us. If she were closer, I'd be all in those thighs on the often.

The vibe is industrial meets coffee shop, with seating space very precious (although I recently read of a new location coming) and an enthusiastic crowd setting up board games and claiming every spare inch of space.

It's been quite some time since I was here (December 2013), but the standout beers were: Stimulus with Intelligentsia coffee added and Solidarity.

Stimulus was one of the few beers I've had (Stone's Dayman being the other) to be a non-stout ale to utilize coffee. The result was a pleasant surprise. The coffee didn't dominate the beer but added a layer of new flavor to the otherwise malty red ale.

Solidarity again surprised me for it's incredibly low ABV combined with a robust, malty flavor. It was somewhat like drinking a big hefty stout with all of the roasted malt, chocolate and coffee notes, but with the lightness of a pilsner. I loved it. I wish I'd had more.

The beers were fairly priced, the flight pours healthy, and the service polite. Nothing at all to complain about.

This is a good spot for y'all Angelenos. Enjoy.
