Aug 2003 on the bottle cap. Sweetish slight lemon nose. Very clear translucent bright yellow look in the Blanche de Bruges goblet. Very slight white outer ring of a head. Mellow sweet wheaty flatish malt flavor. Plain malt on the tongue. Lively mouth but on the light side. Overall quite average.. the brew is very uncomplex.

*Tasted on tap at Waterhuis aan de Bierkant in Ghent

Appearance: a cloudy yellow pour with a small white head.

Smell: a light and spicey nose...obviously corriander is present here. very organic and farmlike....grassy & earthy i guess.

Taste: i found this to be very earthy for a witbier. grassy and woody notes....reminds me of hay on a farm. natural and light tasting. very mild body but yet very thirst quenching.

Mouthfeel: again, very very light and smooth. an almost woody and musty finish.

Drinkability: an original witbier for sure, not what i would say was a typical flavour. worth a shot, probably wouldn't have another one though.

Smooth and light wit. Lightly spicy and citric, not enough spice for me in the end, but highly drinkable in that its very light and very smooth, nothing offensive about it.

An ice-cream like wheat beer. Sediment throughout, however emminently drinkable. Whitish colour, head wheat aroma. Bit of lemon, corriander, apple, banana, vanilla, not too sweet, yeast, refreshing. Medium to thin mouthfeel. Plucked in Montreal Depanneur.

West Flander's Brouwerij Riva launched this beer in 1980 to rival the extremely popular Hoegaarden from De Kluis. They were one of the first to do so; and helped to revive the style. Unlike Hoegaarden, however, it's brewed without spices, and is much more delicate in its flavor.

A hazy yellow-gold body rests beneath a loosely creamy head of bright white foam. The retention is good, but it slowly dissolves to just a wide collar and leaves only minor lacing. Vanilla, honey, and sweet, juicy apples dominate the nose with only a hint of citrus. It's sweetish, perfumey, and welcoming! The body is light; and it's smooth and somewhat creamy in the mouth due to a very fine, moderate carbonation. The flavor is distinctly citrusy (lemon) with a mild tartness, and a lightly sweet, wheatish malt base. What bitterness is present is kept in the wings, with balance coming more from the acidity of the yeast. In the finish it's tartness erodes, leaving behind a lemony note; which in turn softens to leave a dull, residual honey-like note on the tongue alongside some very minor, drying alcohol.

A delicate gem of a beer that offers some interesting character along with great drinkability. Makes an ideal apertif, and pairs well with most salads.

I picked this one up at the supermarket. I chose it because I had never drunk it before. The bottle is nothing special, nor is the label. It is even glued crooked. When I poured it in, the head grew very easily. It did have a lot of brown spots. The yeast so it seams. I, unaware as it was my first, poured it in quite rough. And the result was that thick pieces of yeast where floating around my beer. When I was filling the glass I was surprised to see a Pilsner colour. But with the yeast in it quickly turned it dirty.
The smell was very rich. Raw meat, citrus fruits, dark bread, garden spices and yeast.
The taste was complex. Thick and constantly evolving. At first I thought of an ordinary Witte taste, but then the aftertaste kicks in and opens op part by part. It is very full first sweet meat, then hops and grains . And finally dark bread. The bread and hops keep lingering on. They have fresh and full body. Very dry. Eventually a slight sourness joins in.

Beautiful, for me this is a peace of art. The first that came in my head was anger that it had been lying in my refrigerator for so long.

Vivat, Crescat, Floreat!

On tap at Zeno’s Pub - State College, PA - Oct 14, 2007. Contrived aroma wisping of sacarrhin plum sauce and peach juice. Pours a grayish straw, totally clouded, with fast-fading rocky white head. Flavor is a washed out, thin and brightly sugared mess. Clean, but fakey and constructed of blandness. Bits of apple candy and almond powder. Backs out with a lightly metallic finish. Meh.

Poured from a brown 25.4 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy white/golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is alive with citrus and spices. Taste is very flavorful, citrus, spices, yeast, a touch of tartness. Refreshing and easy drinking. Feels full bodied in the mouth and overall is worth seeking out.

This is a pretty good wit beer. The white head is of medium dimension and didn't disapeared too quickly. The taste is very refreshing with a light touch of spice. No the best of the genre but still very good too drink.

PS. I still don't understand why brewery still used light green coloured bottle as opposed to the brown one.

Pours a faint and cloudy yellow, huge bright white head, carbonation is consistent with a belgian wit.

Aroma came off a little odd at first, kinda like rotting vegetables, then came a soft aorma of wheat malt, banana esters, citrus and soft black peper. Flavor is well rounded and there is a balanced presence of faint citrusy orange, wheat and fresh spring grass.

Not bad but I think mine was a little old, try to get it the fresh off the delivery truck

A quite winsome nebulous lemon yellow color on the pour, the head miniscule in size, spumescent in texture, off white in color with the evanesced lace a fine sheet. Orange peels, tart and fresh is the nose with the start sweet and malt laden, top slender in feel. Finish has a pronounced acidity, the hops spares, dry and a drinkable beer, but not anything to get excited about.

I'm not a big fan of witbier and this one was no different. If you like the style, you may like this but it didn't really do anything for me.

Color, smell, taste and mouthfeel were all pretty much within the style.

I'll try it again but there's not much else that I can say about it at this point.

I was suprised to see such a low score on this brew. I thought it was fantastic. Perhaps because I had it on tap vs. in the bottle. Anyways, I had this at Cafe de Wildeman in Amsterdam. (great bar, by the way).

The beer pours a cloudy, light yellow with a sticky, lacy white head. The smell is light and fruity. Orangepeel and coriander.
The taste is incredibly smooth. Yummy, yummy stuff. Creamy mouthfeel with nice mellow carbonation that goes down easily.

This is one underrated beer. If you've had it in the bottle and were unimpressed, and see it on tap, try it again!

330ml bottle bought from Sainsbury's...

Poured a cloudy light golden yellow colour... White head poured quite thick and foamy and faded to thin layer...

Aroma - Lemony, peppery, grassy, floral notes, light pineapple hints, light hop notes, some sugary sweetness in the background...

Taste – Zesty, citrusy, some sweetness, honey notes, light hop notes, some maltiness..

Feel - Smooth and quite dry. Light body. Very drinkable...

Overall - A very good beer. Very refreshing and very drinkable - recommended !!!

Appearance: lemon yellow, cloudy, narrow layer of sudsy off-white foam, OK head retention

Aroma: starchy wheat, hint of chamomile, coriander, faint whiff of plain bar soap (yes... it was a clean class)

Flavor: very light wheatiness, slight lemony tartness, hint of coriander, herbally hop flavor, finishes dry and fairly clean

Mouthfeel: light body, zesty carbonation, crisp, soft texture

Other comments: Definitely a good witbier. I still really like canned Wittekerke. I know that might be sacrilege, but there you have it.

A- Pours a clear straw yellow body with a 2-finger white head. The head doesn't last too long and there's very little lacing.

S- Bready yeast, coriander, lemon grass, slight orange peel, and lemon zest.

T- Lemony flavor up front, nice yeastiness, and a little tartness at the end of each sip.

MF- Light bodied but well carbonated, which helps out the palate.

Arrived looking a hazy and cloudy yellowish color with a short 1/4" head. No lacing developed. The aroma was of spice and malt. The flavor was a little different from other witbiers I have had, as there was a heavier malt / grain and yeast flavor over the citrus, coriander and other spices. Not as light and refreshing as others in the style.

The mouthfeel was lightly crisp at the start with a dry finish. The drinkability is slightly above average as the flavor is decent, but this is not as refreshing as the comments in the beer menu stated.

Fairly good Wit. Pours a hazy stray gold color with a decent sized delicately bubbling head. Head retention is good. Some lacing on my Bud Select flute.

Smell is weak, a little malty and some lemon zest.

Taste is fairly mild as well, no Belgian yeast, mainly lemon zest and herbs / spices. Tastes a bit floral. Overall pleasant enough, just not a really memorable Wit.

Mouthfeel is rich for the style and crisp, the taste could be more robust, but this is not a weak beer.

Overall fairly good. A nice refreshing summertime drink.
