Poured a nice cloudy red body with orange around the edges of the glass and one finger of fluffy off-white head. A bit of carbonation clung to the sides of the glass. A very nice looking beer. Scents of fruity esters, white grape, orange flesh, vanilla, a very slight sour, wild undertone that is barely discernible when the glass is disturbed, a moderate level of bourbon and moderate-light alcohol character, a medium-light toasted malt character, and a nice oak aroma. Overall impression of aroma is a very nice, complex, rich, boozy barrel-aged aroma with the nice toasted malt of a red ale and a moderate citrusy hop presence balancing in the background and mingling with nice fruity aromas. Flavor begins with notes of bourbon, vanilla and oak, with a little bit of citrus-like sweet and sour flavor in the background. The middle maintains the barrel-aged flavors with alcohol, bourbon and oak becoming more prominent with a minor character of indeterminate citrus peel. Finish is boozy with notes of bourbon, alcohol, oak, vanilla and a nice overripe fruit flavor with medium-light notes of toasted malt. Aftertaste is bourbon, vanilla and oak with toasted malt. Overall impression of flavor is a boozy, bourbon and barrel-agin forward beer, balanced by bright citrus, fruity esters and toasted malt in a supporting role. Very nice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth, with moderate carbonation and a smooth feel with the faintest hint of alcohol burn. Very nice and easy to sip. Overall this is a good barrel-aged red ale, that keeps the character of the base ale, but lays a very nice barrel-aged character over it in both aroma and flavor. The mouthfeel aids the flavor and is quite nice. A good beer and worth drinking.
