This beer pours quite dark, but to the light there's a hint of amber color here. The head is tan, 1 finger, but dissipates quickly.
The nose hit me as I was pouring, and I got a good whiff of bourbon. Up close I still get the bourbon, but I also get some plum, raisin, and some brown sugar.
Taste is slightly sweet at first, brown sugar? I also get the raisin and plum, that continues throughout. I also get a good flavor from the bourbon barrel on the back.
The feel is quite boozy - more so on the back side, where the heat kicks in. It's not too harsh, but more warming. The body is more smooth up front, and good full body.
Quite good, and a pleasure to try.

2008 version! Pretty good. Smooth for a barley wine.

Very nice medium amber color. Aroma was exactly what you'd expect for a barley wine. Nice alcohol flavor; warm not hot on the tongue. Went exceptionally well with their special (pork brisket with chipotle bbq sauce) Bartender mentioned it had been aged for a year, probably why it was not too boozy. Only issue the head retention was not there but definitely worth a do over

Poured a nice rich amber color with a one finger white head. Quite nice looking, very true to form for a barleywine. Scents of piney and floral hops with slight citrus aromas, along with caramel malt and fruity esters. A good, well rounded, true to style barleywine aroma. Flavor begins sweet, with caramel and honey, but with a strong underlying bitterness with flavors of pine resin, citrus peel and slight floral hops, as well as some hints of alcohol. Finish is bitter, with some caramel malt sweetness to balance and nice notes of floral, pine and citrus hops. Aftertaste is caramel leading into pine resin. An excellent hop-forward barleywine with a good balance of malt and hops. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy bodied with light carbonation and a sticky, resinous mouthfeel, with no discernible alcohol burn. Very good, true to style and quite the nice sipper. Overall this is a great American Barleywine. It hits all the style notes and is quite pleasant to drink. It's not the most standout example of the style, but it is a solid example of it, with nothing done wrong.
