Poured a nice clear amber with one finger of bubbly white head. A good, classic looking IPA. Scents of slight citrus, some tropical fruit and strong aromas of grassy hops. A good hop forward nose, showcasing three nice hop aromas. Flavor begins with a subdued hop bitterness, with notes of citrus pith, grassy hops, pine resin and tropical fruit all backed up with a nice caramel malt backbone. It's a good flavor profile, hop forward without being overwhelming, just well crafted and pleasant. Mouthfeel was medium bodied with moderate carbonation and quite smooth to drink. Very nice, quite similar to other British-style ales. Overall this is a nice English IPA. It doesn't have the incredible hop forwardness of the American IPAs, but it is a well crafted, flavorful, enjoyable beer.

On tap near brewery in Phoenix, AZ. Four Peaks Raj IPA is sparkling clear amber in color, with a moderate white head and lacing.

Mildly hoppy Citrus nose with bready malt.more like a pale ale.
Barely Pale Ale bitterness.

Medium body with medium+ carbonation. Rather crisp and lively, every for an IPA.

O: Very drinkable, lightly hopped IPA.

Poured a reddish, honey amber color with 1-2 fingers of white head when I got it. Good lacing on the sides and good retention all the way down.

Smelled a weird mix of hops and malts. Resin, grass and herb hops, honey, caramel and roasty malts.

Taste wasn’t anything to be desired. Roasty caramel malts, grass and resin hops and maybe even a bit of rye. Long lasting bitterness on the tongue after.

Medium body. Thin-to-oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter finish.

I wasn’t too much of a fan of this one. The hop/malt balance didn’t quite work.

A - poured with one finger of white foam on a clear, golden amber body. The head settles quick, but leaves good lace.

S - light toffee malt and some spicy hops.

T - toffee malt up front with some red apple and orange hops in the middle. Finishes with caramel and balanced bitterness.

M - medium body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - nicely made, not particularly english, but very drinkable.

In my opinion, this beer is a bit heavier than what others say. It's a dark amber color, still a bit translucent with decent lighting. As far as the taste goes, it's a bit hoppier than what I usually like, but still flavorful enough to keep me interested. Though hoppy, it doesn't diminish the aftertaste too much. Overall a solid IPA.

Nice creamy head in the imperial nonic glass. Plenty hoppy but definitely in the English style of IPA. Hops are woodier and fruitier. Bitter aftertaste but not so pronounced as typical American IPAs. Cellar temp shows off the hops. Fruit flavors include something like pomegranate and a touch of grape skins. Dark amber with a touch of copper.

Nice nose and a warm flavor profile. Watery body but a malty mouthful. On tap at the Four Peaks restaurant and pub in Scottsdale.

A-transparent amber with a thin foamy cream colored head

S-smells like peaches and hops. smells good, but unfortunately too faint.

T-comes in with an extremely mild taste of malts and some creamy hops. turns in to a matching after-taste. nothing terrible, but one of the most boring IPAs i've ever had. there is some slight peach flavor. i'm actually not getting too much bitterness either.

M-medium carbonation with a dry finish

O-definitely a boring IPA but at the same time very easy to drink. it didn't go down too quickly, but it did go down enjoyably. it just may not be a good IPA for hop heads.

Had on tap at Twin Peaks brewery.

Pours a clear copper color with a slight head. Very little head retention.

A sweet fruit nose orange or maybe peach.

Medium body beer with slight carbonation. Malt and fruit sweetness off the top. Finishes dry and bitter.

A true English IPA if I were any judge.

Light amber with a fair head and poor retention. Earthy grassy aroma with a touch of caramel. Drinks pretty much the same with a notable bitter back end from the bittering hops. On the dry side with medium, leaning light, body and a good amount of carbonation.

Pint and 4oz sample on tap at the brewpub in Tempe.

This is the big brother to the 8th Street pale ale. Same English hops, same malt, just a bit more.

App - golden, clear, head ok.
Aroma - hops (English) dominate the malt, but are not huge.
Flavor - a good balance of hop flavor, malt sweetness and hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel - seems light for it's siz, but not thin,
Overall - good English-style IPA but I prefer the 8th Street PA. Is isn't enough bigger to be worth switching.

A: Dark orange almost copper with a thin 1 finger head.. Leaves decent lacing..

S: screams english ipa.. Caramel.. Peach.. faint citrus.. Lots of english hops.. Faint sweet toasty malt.

T: english hop bitterness.. Smooth caramel.. A slight lemon zest.. Finishes with a peachy like puckiness that leaves your mouth dry.. As you pucker an orange peel like bitterness comes through.. Apricot comes through as brew warms..

Mf light medium.. Good carbonation..

D: easy drinker.. Very nice brew.

Poured during a recent tasting at Tops into a small tasting glass.

Looks: Like a tea party. A pretty pinkish orange liquid is topped by an ephemeral off-white head that quickly recedes to a ring of bubbles of various size, leaving tiny paths of lace.

Smells: like candied fruit. Sweet and lightly citrusy tangerines mingle with notes of caramel.

Tastes: unfinished. Heavy on the hop bitterness, without much hop flavor. There's a nice sweet maltiness, but the beer is largely missing the citrusy hit I desire. This may, however, just be a result of the beer's style -- I've been spoiled by American IPA hop bombs.

Feels: like soda. High, effervescent carbonation with a medium-light body.

Drinks: like routine. The Raj is a perfectly average English IPA. For those who want hop bitterness without hop flavor, go for it -- but it's not my cup of tea.

Raj IPA 3/3/3/3/3 on tap at the Tempe Brewery
Medium copper in color with short head and retention.
Mild hop aroma. Dominant hop bitterness on taste, subtle if any hop flavor, bitter is king.
Medium body and carbo.
Bitter dominates any hop flavor or aroma on this one. Enjoyable for sure, just short on flavoring and seems like this one is all about bittering hops.

Ontap at the brewery. Pours a vibrant orange with lace. Smells lightly floral. The taste is fruity (tropical) with a distant pineyness. Those flavors give way to a nice bitter bite. Creamy malt balances well. Finishes clean and beckons for another sip. Mouthfeel is light crisp and quenching. Drinkability is high. A light ipa that went down too fast. At 6.9 abv this can be dangerous. Fresh off the tap and quite an apertif.

Medium yellow with lots of lace. Some floral hop aroma. Enjoyed at Scottsdale location, brewed of course at Tempe.Such a high a.b.v. and much caramel malt, and missing the style, the balance. Average mouthfeel. The bitterness did not work for me, it was not too drinkable.

Pours clear copper with a short, foamy white head with good retention, nearly there until the finish. Good lacing. Tangy citrus nose with a biscuity background. Kind of sour, though. Crisp mouthfeel and dry finish. Good representative of the style, bitter, herbal, and peppery. Some citrus, but more tangy than sweet. Solid malt back gives it a bready, dry finish. Very smooth drinker, refreshing.

Wispy white head, requires a somewhat vigorous pour to elicit. The beer is copper-orange with some decent lacing. Same as the tap for the most part, although the keg produces a nice foam every time.

The nose is citric with a bit of the floral, 8th St. hopping. Decent power in the aroma, although I tend to remember more at the bar. The flavor is pleasingly strong and hoppy, with enough pine mixed in with the above flavors to have good complexity and interest. Malts are well out of the way, but balancing with a toffee sweetness.

The mouthfeel is a bit thin, overall it hardly harms the drinkability but for maximum complexity and interest (not to mention to match the best English-style IPAs such as Meantime) I would recommend firming it up a bit.

Color is a rich golden color with a solid white head. The aroma is of a blend of malt and subtle english hops. This is an english style IPA, not a west coast IPA so it is subdued in the aroma and flavor. Flavor is a good balance of pale malt and hop bitterness with a lingering and pleasent hop finish. Pretty floral and fruity. A nice IPA but I prefer the west coast hop knot IPA from Four Peaks better.

On-tap at the brewery.

Pours a reddish-copper color with a one-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of tangy citrus and tropical fruits with hints of lightly toasted malts.

Tastes similar to how it smells. Lightly roasted malt flavors kick things off, followed by a biting citrus fruit flavor that carries on until the bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's just a bit on the thin side but still manages to go down smoothly.

Drinkability is alright. The flavors seem to clash a bit too much to make this really drinkable.

Overall this beer seemed more like it was trying to be an Imperial EPA and I think it would've been a lot better had they not gone overboard on the hops (or underboard on the malt). Still, it's not terrible, though I'd go for a number of 4P's other beers before coming back to this one.

Consumed in pint glass from tap at North Scottsdale Location on 30 March 2007.

Arrived at table with nice creamy 1" head atop a clear copper colored ale.

Smell is light hops and slightly herbaceous; Taste was hoppy with a slight copper taste, but not overwhelming. Very nice finish with a good balance of bitterness. This beer is better suited as a dinner IPA as it is not over the top hoppy - just the right amount of hoppyness.
Good call.

On draft at the Tempe brewery
A- Deep dark orange hue, white foamy head, moderate lacing
S- Citrus tones (lemon & orange), sweet bubblegum, but subtle
T- Mild citrus and a touch of pine hops, bread malts show up in the middle, finishes sweet
M- Light/medium-bodied, oily texture, low carbonation
D- Despite the well-masked abv, this is a surprisingly mild IPA with a dearth of hops and flavor, there are much better choices out there and 4Peaks HopKnot is a significant upgrade in this style

This one had a mild-mannered head, but great lacing. and the color. Wow. Copper smell was beat down. Very intense citrus/pine/floral all rolled up. Given the hoppiness in the smell, that there was a touch of sweetness was a --welcome--surprise. Make no mistake, though. This beer is a hop monster. I do want to say, however, the hops aren't crazy off-the-charts. The pine and floral reall kick through and the bitter finish turns to drying. Nice creamy, medium body on this one. As for drinkability, I'd actually prefer the HopKnot over this, but I'm still giving this a high score, b/c hopheads will really enjoy it.

This beer is a full copper color with ruby highlights to it. It is brilliantly clear and is topped by a pale wispy head that has quite a bit of staying power to it. The aroma is an enticing mixture of grapefruit, bergamot, tangerine, and a hint of pine. It has a smooth creamy mouthfeel to it and it finishes with a solid bitterness that is intermingled by notes of pine and bitter orange peel. This beer is slightly malty sweet, which accentuates the citrusy hop character quite well. I really like the sharp biting character of this beer, and it is pretty light on the palate as well.
